 | well, we are at the third album and THIS one is my least favorite S&G release. it lacks a lot in my opinion. id like to hear everyones thoughts, ecspecially anyone who really loves this album.
WM3AM had innocence on its side to make it unique and wonderful dispite its lack of depth and production, but SOS doesnt have innocence or lack of experience to make up for the lack of depth. i understand that they were pressed for time with its release, but there really is a severe lack of depth and thought in this album.
with that said though, there are, of course, great things about this album. Kathy´s Song, April Come She Will and i am a rcok are all songs that i really enjoy (yes, i purposefully left sound of silence off of that list ... being hoenst, i never really cared for that song, though i Love the lyrics).
now, discuss! |

 | Strange how opinions differ, eh. This is the best album! No 1. This album is The Paul Simon Songbook featuring Art Garfunkel. This is what the group is all about. There is evident rawness here, and to put it bluntly nothing "strange". Where WM3AM is like Sunday-School, SOS is right in your face. I agree with Jeff however.....the SOS version on this album is not the best. It is the first version with electrics (as everybody knows.....the story has been told a thousand times!) and is too much. But the rest is fantastic. No experiments here. (Like 7O´Clock news and Voices of Old people as on the next two albums). Just plain good Simon and Garfunkel. Albeit 85% Paul and 15% Art. So more Simon and Ga!! :-)) |

 | I think that SOS is a wonderful album. Its not my favourite, I Love Bridge Over Troubled Water and always have, and I think that the harmonies on Wednesday Morning 3AM are simply sublime. However SOS not only features a number of gr8 tracks but has some gr8 lyrics and really shows off Paul´s writing talents!!! (moreso than Wednesday Morning 3AM neways!)
P.S. Acoustic version of SOS all the way !!!!!!!!! |

 | This one I put at the bottom. It´s a great album but not my favorite.
Like you said, this album appears that it was rushed to be completed.
I guess sophomoric might be the best way to describe it. Exceptions to SOS, I Am A Rock, Kathy´s Song, and April Come She Will. I like Anji, even though it´s a meaningless instrumental. Blessed is growing on me, but it´s not my favorite. I think A Most Peculiar Man and Richard Cory are mediocre. Somewhere They Can´t Find Me and We´ve Got a Groovey Thing Goin´ Baby are awful songs. They took most of the lyrics from WM3AM to do Somewhere They Can´t Find Me and it was awful.
"Somewhere" was another attempt to electrify their Old songs like SOS. I even think Tom Wilson produced "Somewhere." The acoustic version of SOS is best and the acoustic live versions of Leaves That Are Green are better than the studio one. |

 | Anji is meaningless? It is Paul Simon at his very best. It is the pinnacle of guitar-playing genius!! There is nothing meaningless about Anji!! |

 | Paul didn´t write Anji. In the album credits, it says it was written by a guitarist named Davy Graham. Paul only performed it. Well done, but I don´t think it´s that genuis of Paul, since he didn´t write it. |

 | Oh, and I forgot to rate the SOS album, stupid me!
It´s okay, but I don´t really like it that much. It seems to me not to reflect the TRUE S&G, just the electric folk/rock fad that was booming at the time. It was obvious every song was made to fit that trend, and I think it doesn´t sound too good, or even sincere.
I Love "Kathy´s Song", "The Sound Of Silence", "I Am A Rock", and I don´t mind the others, but I don´t think it´s true S&G. This album is much more dated then their other work.
When do we get to discuss "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme"? That´s my #1 fav album, tied with "Bridge Over Troubled Water". |

 | I really like this album because whenever I listen to it it just sounds so fresh to me. I think this and "Parsley" have very similar vibes, as do "Bookends" and "Bridge." Maybe I like this album because I´m young and their youth just seeps out of this album, but it´s very nice to listen to no matter how youthful or pretentious it is. |
