 | And Brian, a last word: don´t give lessons to the Spanish people, they certainly know better than you about the daily terrorist threat...but maybe you never heard about the March 11th 2004 attack or about ETA...i know, America is very far from this poor coward Europe... |

 | Hello Jordi.
I hope it wasn´t my posting that made you change your opinion about going to the concert.
I only wanted to know what other´s think about it - or if anyone at Paul or Art´s management is thinking about this fact...
I think it doesn´t bother them (or they would cancel the show..) - so the risk must be very low. ??
It is your decicion, but I hope you don´t regret it later. It´s sad that S&G didn´t make a short visit in Spain too, because there are so many fan´s!
To Brian: I don´t know anything about planing an terrorist attack and how much time they need before - but on the other hand it´s also clear that this concert is planned since many many months so there may be enough time -and Al Kaida warning´s are always very accurate and true, they don´t bluff very often - what do you think? |

 | We are all in this world of terrorism threats together.....If I had the opportunity to attend the S&G concert in Rome, I would go...Maybe I am too Old and stubborn to let the bad guys win so easily for me to change what I want to do.....I will say that the S&G concert I saw in Cincinnati last month was the most spectacular event I have ever attended...I cried tears of joy several times...I also saw them last October in Columbus...they were great, also..but just a dress rehearsal for the 2004 Tour....their voices are magic.....and so much more happens when you are there LIVE than watching a DVD...
As a, by the way, you all know that Paul and Edie had a fundraiser in May at their home in Connecticut for the Democratic nominee for President, John Kerry....I also support him for President. This is a very important election for the US, as for one, President Bush has alienated so many of our allies throughout the world....He and his croonies have been bullies to the world...and I regret that....My father was a poor man from West Virginia who went to fight in WWII in so many countries in Europe to help save us all from Hitler´s regime....he was in the Battle of the Bulge...We all must continue to stick together against all terrorists who threaten the freedom of the world....And I remember what Franklin Delano Roosevelt said as we entered WWII, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Then, as now, we must not cower.

 | I totally agree with you Marieno,we europeans are still grateful for the sacrifice all these american soldiers gave in WWII, it was a horrible world then, it´s so sad we have to live with these terrorist threats today.

 | Hi Bodo, thanks for your comments:
In fact, I had not seen your post before cancelling my trip I just read the news on the web. I know this is not a very good example or rational decision because I agree that we must not give any credit to terrorism, that´s why I was unsure about writing my message because I don´t want to make anyone change his mind. It was just a personal decision, considering not only the risk of any terrorist act but also the risk of going there and the show being cancelled because of threatens, and also my family was not very happy with my journey. Anyway, we must trust the organisation and suppose security will be guaranteed, and for me I´ll continue listening to S&G wonderful performances over the headphones in any bus or train, hearing to the perfect stereo harmonics of their voices (I´m really hunged up on the 67 New York City concert...). Please, I hope there will be lots of chronicles and pictures from Rome. Take care friends!

 | Well said Beth...Thank you.
I personally have friends who are American and the one thing they do not consider any of us to be is cowards. I´m from the UK and we had around 30 years of terrorism from the IRA. Their attacks could be anything from car bombs to shooting a single individual in a car. And even now, long after it stopped, with the Al Quaida threats, we still have no rubbish bins at our train stations?..
We are all living under the shadow of terrorism now, both here in Europe and in the US. If we hide away and do not live our lives as normal THEY win! If I were able to I´d be going to Rome.
I personally agree with Brian, it´s unlikely to happen because something of that scale would take time to plan. They´d been planning 9/11 for around 2 years or so. So personally I wouldn´t worry too much.
As for this, we´ve had more attacks than you, thing. Lets not do this. It doesn´t matter if we in Europe have had more attacks than in the States.
When 9/11 happened almost every country in the world was affected because it was the World Trade Centre. At the end of the day no matter where it happens it´s innocent people being hurt. People who have no political agenda. Nothing to prove to anyone, they´re just people living their lives and trying to earn an honest living.
We lived our lives during WWII. Here in the UK we lived our lives even though a masked gun man could come from no where and kill someone or blow someone up in a car.
So lets just get on and LIVE?..Don?t let them win!!!

 | As I said, I´m a firefighter and a WMD technician. I doubt many people are more aware of domestic threats than I, but what do I know.
I ´heard about´ and mourned the 3/11 bombing as I mourned the 9/11 attack. I consider both equal in savagery and am, however, dissapointed in Spain´s withdrawl from commitments abroad in response to the attack. |

 | On my god, that´s terrible . . . and to think that Paul and Art are JEWISH too . . . it makes me sick. I hope, desperately hope, that everything will be okay, and that if the threats get too much, the concert will be cancelled.
Better safe than sorry. |

 | Brian, i never said you were not competent as a firefighter (a wonderful and dangerous job) or as a WMD technician, i didn´t like your ironical comment on French people and your courage lesson ...i just said that many Americans, when they cancelled their trip in France in the 80-90s, during the bombs waves, didn´t show us their "legendary" bravery...so, don´t give lessons...
I also think that Americans didn´t feel very concerned by the Middle East terrorism problem (in one word, they didn´t give a damn...after all, some bombs exploded in that very far country called France which was located...euuuh, near Iran or maybe near Liban, i don´t know exactly) until terrorism came in their own country...
And there is a difference between being a technician of terrorism and living under daily terrorism threat...even if you don´t want to change your habits (go in restaurants, concerts...), you think about it...especially when the bombs explode in the subway (like in France in the 90s)...everybody look at each other, the guy who is carrying a big bag is maybe a terrorist or this one who has a strange face...everybody feel the tension...when i´m writing these lines, i´m also thinking of the Israeli or Iraqi people, of their daily life...
And by the way, i used to work in the security and safety field, so i know what a bomb is...

 | This is supposed to be Paul Simon appreciation site....Not a site for political slagging matches.
Isn´t it enough there´s fighting in the world without this kind of stuff here....
I wouldn´t have traveled either after 9/11 and I live in the UK.
So let´s just stop this fulishness shall we and get on with our lives... |

 | Micky, i totally agree with you, this site is not a political site and generally, i avoid this subject matter but next time, Brian should think twice before insulting people...sorry, i could not let him tell that about my country...i´m not a nationalist or "chauvinist" as we say in France, but when i hear bullshits like that, which are deliberate provocations, my blood becomes hot...that was my last word about THIS post... |
