 | Hi
Maybe others also have heard about that, a few day´s ago the terror organisation Al Quaida again has send warnings to Italy that they will make a really big attack in the next few weeks!!
After the attacks in Spain they said they will wait for 3 months, and the gov. can decide to send back their troops from Iraq - now the time seems to be over.
I don´t know what you all think but a free concert of 2 _american_ _jewish_ people and maybe 100.000 visitors or more is really a dangerous aim in my opinion... especially when this terror organisation said there will be an attack in the next 2 - 3 weeks.
What do you people think?
Do you think there can be enough security personal to check every visitor? Or will the city of Rome save some money (I guess 5000 or more security persons will not work for free) - because it´s a free show?
Really, I´m a little bit afraid. I would like to know what Paul and Art think about that. |

 | Since I know about that concert in Rome, I have always thought it was quite scary and as I have a family (children), it was one of the reasons why my husband and I were not very in the mood to go though we are not at all paranoiac people !!! It´s true that all the "best" conditions for such an attack will be there : let´s hope now of course that nothing will happen at all and that they just want to scare people but I imagine that if, even just the days before the concert, the pressure and the danger are too high, they will cancel it. |

 | Well, there was a terrorist threat
at the International Nijmegen Four Days Marches which started today. On this event many military man and woman from a lot of country´s join in. It´s a big event, 47.000 people join the marches and there are more than 100.000 visitors in Nijmegen each day.
They arrested 2 people and searched their house but nothing dangerous was found, but they hold them in prison untill they are sure that there will be no attack. Let´s hope nothing happens.
I think the Italien police and security service are extra alert these days and are aware of the danger.
I also think S&G will cancel the show if there is to much danger. They have their family´s with them, I guess they don´t take any risk.

 | I also think that the security is very strong these days - but they can´t be everywhere.
I think at the time everyone say´s "the show must go on" - we have to live our normal life and do everything ... until something happens at such a concert - then everything will change IMO. |

 | According to the local Nijmegen (yes, I am from this wonderful city) news, the arrested suspects were planning to kill several of the military people who join the Marches. And it was also confirmed by both the police and the management that the Marches would have been canceled if they hadn´t had arrested these two men. Sounds like they are taking no risk at all.
Let´s hope Italian police is just as alert!! |

 | In fact... everything has already changed....with or without terrorism. The days of flower power are decades away....and you can´t expect that everyone stays at home? What about the threats at the Euro 2004? Except that a referee goes into hiding after death threats from lunatic people.
The italian security will be alert and do everything they can. I am not like a Ostrich that sticks his head in the sand, and thinks that he can?t be seen because he can?t see. |

 | Nah, IMO it´s difference if you get a warning "We will make a terror attack in the next 2 or 3 weeks" and normal live after 9/11
It´s clear that an attack can happen every day and at every place.. but if I get an warning, and a time window... uh I will feel very comfortable there and I think it makes a big difference.
Stupid example:
You walk over many streets every day and could be killed by a drunken driver - but when someone tells you, tomorrow I´ll drive drunken down your street to kill some people - would you feel save as the day before?

 | I don´t think terrorists would be likely to choose a Simon & Garfunkel concert of all things to bomb, but who knows. It´s true the Colosseum is a national/international landmark; however, as bad as this sounds, I think the terrorists would want to make an even bigger impact than that. |

 | But what is bigger this summer in Rome? If I remember right in 2002 500.000 people visited the Paul Mc Cartney concert in Rome... maybe S&G will get the same audience.
I don´t think they can attack the prime minister, and Al Quaida mostly attacks the normal people and tourists... but it´s true, there can be hundreds of good aim´s. |

 | Well let´s hope everything goes well for the concert and there´s no trouble.
It seems there´s alot of these warnings but nothing seems to happen, thank the gods.
I didn´t know that they had their families with them on this tour. Where did you hear that Ans? |

 | Dear friends:
I am really sorry and unsure about writing about this subject, but I think that my case may be relevant. I am a big fan from Barcelona, Spain, and I already got my plane tickets to go to Rome this Saturday. However, after hearing the unbearable news of such threatens I decided upon cancelling my trip, even though I may not get any money back. I would have loved to see S&G for my first time live, and I also wish that nothing happens in the concert and that in some months I´ll be able to enjoy it from my DVD anyway. But the truth is that I just wanted to Have A Good Time and get away from work etc. and I think that if I am not able to enjoy the concert because I am too worried, it´s better not to waste such a precious full moon evening... Let´s hope terrorism is over one day, and we can all live in peace! |

 | You sure that you aren´t from France?
Wake up, people! Your odds of being killed by a terrorist are still right up there with being struck by lightning and winning the lottery.
The years of planning that go into a large-scale Al-Qaeada attack would make pre-planning for this event almost impossible. I know we think that S&G are idols, but most of the rest of the world will ignore this concert.
I´m a firefighter and a WMD Technician who has been and will continue to be ready to respond to a terrorist event. I´ve been to New York City for events, large and small, often since September 11, 2001. I´m not scared. You shouldn´t be either. If I had a way to get to the Rome concert, I would be there in seconds flat.
If all it takes to keep you home is a verbal threat...the terrorists have certainly won. |

 | Brian, i prefer not understand your first line...you, courageous americans canceled your tourist trips in France when some bombs exploded here in the 80-90s and killed many French people...in fact, i´m sure you don´t remember it (but i, i remember: in 1986, a teacher from my highschool died in an attack in Paris)...who cared? in that time, your great country was not attacked...French people have been living under the terrorist threat for 20 years...
Marieno from FRANCE
PS: i visited NYC, this beautiful town, less than a month after the attack...you see Brian, all French are not coward... |
