Hey! Just got home from S&G´s concert in Houston (I have included a set list and review for your reading pleasure, located in their respective places on the web site). Great show, man. I saw them in Boston back in December and they sound a lot better now (not that the Boston show sucked)!

Anyway, question for you guys. It´s no secret (to most of you, I assume) that S&G are pretty much doing the EXACT SAME SET LIST they´ve been doing for the whole tour (earlier shows included "Song For The Asking" in the encore, which has now been replaced by "Leaves That Are Green"). I definitely know there are some songs I could do without and some songs I would Love to hear instead. Can I get a top five from everyone? (If you haven´t seen a show, check out the set lists other Simon Soldiers have very kindly included).

Top Five To Leave Out:
1) At The Zoo
2) Keep The Customer Satisfied
3) El Condor Pasa (If I Could)
4) Feelin´ Groovy
5) I Am A Rock

Top Five To Include:
1) The Dangling Conversation
2) Punky´s Dillemma
3) So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright
4) Overs
5) Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.

I love the performance of "Wednesday" on the "Live From New York" CD released a couple of years ago. A close runner-up was "Why Don´t You Write Me" ... they need to do that one!!!

Anyway, just curious what you all think. If you´ve yet to see them on this tour and have tix for the upcoming New Orleans show or European tour, you´re in for a REAL treat. They´re sounding GREAT!

oh god! hmmm, i am trying to remember what i was hoping they would play when i saw them. here are a few:
1) Bleeker Street
2) Cloudy (i dont think they played this one)
3) For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her
4) over
5) so long, frank lloyd wright (very good call Citizen)
6) dangling conversation (i was really hoping for this one. it is my dads favorite Paul Simon song ever and it was what got me hooked on his music)
7) Fakin´ It
8) Song For The Asking

i was so happy to hear them play ´The Only Living Boy In New York´. that was my favorite song for such a long time. musically, it is so dynamic and well mapped and the melody is so incredibly beautiful. it was special for me.

"only living boy in ny" IS a great tune, Jefferson ... i was happy to hear it, too. after paul sang it, i was telling my girlfriend what a sweet line this is: "let your honesty shine, shine, shine ... like it shines on me" ... talking to artie, that´s such a sweet moment.

good call on "bleeker" and "Cloudy" ... those are good ones, as well.

I absolutely agree about the line "let your honesty shine...."
It is truly a sweet moment when he sings that to Art.
About the setlist: I wish they would sing Wednesday Morning and A Church Is Burning...
I don´t really need songs like Baby Driver or Bye Bye Love.

it is really cool to hear of other people who pick up on that line and its beauty. it was always my favorite part of the song. the way that it stands out from the rest of the songs melody as a sort of begging praise is what is so catching about it, to me.

it would have been cool to see them to the vocal harmonies to ´bleeker´.

If they were to leave out I Am A Rock, I would want my money back, so don´t make that suggestion again, please.

Talk to me, Morten. What is it about "I Am A Rock" that you Love so much that you would demand your money back if they DIDN´T do that song? Did you hear the NPR interview that featured Paul saying he didn´t even like that song? "No, that´s not a good one," he said.

I don´t hate the song man, but I gotta know why you LOVE that song. Please! Enlighten me!

As for me, there at least 40 songs in the S&G library that are better than "I Am A Rock."

Well no, thats not true.
I Am A Rock has one of the best lyrics Paul ever wrote.

Also the new version really rocks and has a kind of Bob Dylan like live performance.... it´s one of the better songs you get at these shows because some songs are just like sung as they have sung them 30 years ago (Kathy´s Song for example - I´m sure a song Paul really hate´s, or would you like to sing a Love song for a girl you _lost_ 40 years ago again and again... but Art persuades him to do that song always. However when you look at the S&G setlist you see clearly it´s a set of 2 different characters, when Art is allowed to do Kathys song then Paul makes a rocking I am a Rock (I know a tempo and voice which doesn´t fit Art´s voice...)

I agree. If "I Am A Rock" was to be sung "Old style" I wouldn´t mind it being kept of the set, but with this new makeover it ROCKS. One of the best moments of Paul´s 2002 tour.
Back to the topic: I´d leave out the worst song S&G have ever recorded: EL CONDOR PASA!(Yuk...)

But they are famous for El Condor Pasa nearly everywhere in south America :-)

I don´t like Cecilia. I liked the 1991 version Paul made, but this Old version isn´t good. Cecilia should be sung smooth and soft...with an accordeon. Not BAM BAM BUM ...- BAM BAM BUM...

Well they could still keep the southamerican flavor with a nice rendition of Duncan...that would be lovely.

Well, I give my opinion, even if (unhappilly...?) it doesn´t change anything...

5 songs "out" :
-My Little Town (berk)
-Kathy´s Song (too long...)
-I Am A Rock in this slow version (I really really prefer a version like in the "Paul Simon Songbook")
that´s all...soory, only 3...

5 songs "in" :
-Bleeker Street (wow I Love it)
-Wednesday Morning 3AM
-Flower never bend with the Rainfall (I love it too)
-A Church Is Burning (very good song)
-You don´t know where you interest lies (I really like the live 1967 version, in NY)
-Fakin´ It

Well, I just thing, also, it´s a pity that Scarborough Fair, in live, hasn´t its "Canticle" part... I know it´s very difficult on a scene...but can´t they really do a version where Artie sings the "are you going to..." and Paul the canticle ?...snif...
