I have a corean import of this DVD (which I had long time before the release of the "official" DVD).
On my DVD, the sound is great (DTS Surround) but the picture is not better than on a VHS-tape.
Can anyone who owns the regular DVD answer these questions ?:

Is the picture quality better than on a VHS tape ? Can you compare it with the Paul Simon YTO in Paris DVD ?

About the sound: is it DTS or dolby or just stereo ?

Can you put on the songtexts on the screen while watching the concert ?

Thanks for help, I consider to buy the DVD if the picture quality is much better...

Hi,

the sound is stereo, though on dvd it says Dolby Digital, but it´s not.
But is als says Stereo/ surround.
The quality is not bad ( slighly better that a VHS tape ), but you can not compare it with YTO, that one is much better.
I can put on the lyrics, they are in yellow.
Hope I answered your question.

By the way: are you positive that you have DTS sound???

I have a very expensive installation wiht the best receiver there is and my sounboxes are 1.20 m high ( 4 of them in the room ) A frontspeaker and a subwoofer and I can only hear it in stero surround.
So are you REALLY sure?

Hi Amber, thanks for your answers.

I am really sure about the DTS. The box I have contains two discs. Each disc contains the whole show, but with different sound-resolutions: stereo, DTS 4.1, Dolby Digital, DTS.
The sound is really great, and it really is in surround sound ! but I am not happy with the picture quality. But I guess, I have to live with that.

The Korean people have produced a DTS Track for this ´illegal´ production Kuno is talking about.
I don´t know how they made it, but I don´t believe they ever got the original mix from the soundboard so they have just produced a ´DTS effect´ from stereo sound I believe. From what I know this Korean CP81 DVD was made from a Laser Disc.

You can never compare the picture quality from CP81 to YTO 2000.
There are 20 years between these concerts, and CP81 was only filmed for TV (low quality) while the YTO DVD is produced as a concert video.

I guess they have nearly the same picture quality. Maybe Warner made a better work at the compression of the mpg2 file(artefakts) but you will only see that on a big screen or beamer.

Kuno,

how many tracks do you have on your discs?
I only have one disc.
I think what Bodo says about the DTS effect is right, cause I don´t believe it is truly DTS

I have two disc, but on EACH disc is the FULL show. And on each disc are different audio-mixes.

It contains 22 tracks (including the Late In The Evening-encore)

On "Still Crazy.." for instance, I can clearly hear that it IS a surround mix (Saxophon comes from left, trumpets from right). And it says DTS, so I guess this is right.

Saxophon comes from left, trumpets from right
