 | well... I use my thumb to play the "melody" on the A and D string.
(melody: these steps down from C to A minor and on the G chord) and with the other 3 fingers I just play around on the highest 3 strings... and it really sounds like The Boxer :o)
by the way, I don´t use my smallest finger....that stays on the guitar for stability of the hand.
hope that helped ? (you don´t speak german by the way ?) |

 | THAT HELPED A LOT!! Thank you so much! :)
No, sorry I´m from Denmark, and I´ve only had German in school for about two years.
But anyway, thank you! Now I can see what it was I had wrong!
Great! Now I just have to practise a bit. |

 | Cool.
I am gladly surprised that this really helped. I have another advice:
Just do the C chord with your left hand (be sure to press BOTH of the lowest two strings on the third bar). Then you can play the "bass-line" with your thumb on the two lowest strings (alternately E and A string). The other three fingers always play the highest three strings. That´s The Boxer-sound... practise that until you can play it relaxed (makes fun if you once figured it out).
It´s simple then to go down to a-minor (right thumb does the "steps" on the A-String). It´s a little bit trickier to handle the G chord afterwards, but you´ll figure it out when you are there. |

 | Well, it surely did!
I´ll try to make the right sound out of it. Unfortunatly, I don´t have my guitar here with me, but as soon as I get it I´ll start practise. Thank you again.. |

 | The technique Simon uses is called Travis picking...alternating thumb and fingers. This particular version of The Boxer can be played with just thumb and index or thumb, index and middle. The G chord is played with your third finger(anular or ring finger)leaving you free to play the bass run with the others. We had a great fight in the forum a few centuries ago about this song and guitar tab!!!Sara type your e mail address in here and I will send you the tab with all the finger positions and notes. |

1-3/1/2/1/3/1/2 with right hand, the thumb alterning from the bass to the third cord... hm, am I clear then ??? |
