 | Very sad morning. In my opinion Leonard Cohen was one of the two or maybe three songwriters in Paul's class. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat at a concert he gave a few years ago and his band was also the only one I have seen that was at the level of Paul's group. It was a terrific concert and he was an absolutely amazing talent.
I know this will be controversial, but in my opinion with the loss of L. Cohen, Paul and Paul McCartney are the only two left at that level. I put Al Stewart and Jackson Browne just below them. Bobby Zimmerman gets all the raves, but his music never moved me on that level. I can respect the folks that rave about him, but I simply don't share that level of appreciation. |

  | The musicians I prefer are going to die way before me. :-( What will be left in 10 years?
It seems there is absolute nothing new today that will last for 2 or 3 decades, or will be anyway close to the names Richard mentioned. Jackson and Prince died (too early), so the music from the 80s already passed away.
This is a sad future. |

 | The main problem today I think is record companies cannot count on sales as before. The stars neither. Stranger to Stranger is not Gold in the US and UK up to now. Neither was SBOSW. Paul`s last Gold Album in the US was YTO.
Money is made more on tours or TV or releasing (polished) old material, which is very cheap for the companies too. Paul and S&G have released how many collections? No problem for me.
In the seventies they were able to say, okay, let`s give some acts a chance, if one out of ten will become a big seller, we are on the right side.
You can win as an opening act for stars like Tracy Chapman as a welcome guest at live aid.
S&G made it because SOS was newly discovered by a Radio station and their listeners. But Paul already was a local star in England, I am sure he had made it anyway, more slowly.
Dire Straits had this really great and new sounding title Sultans of Swing, which rose steadily and was the foundation of their career. But I doubt whether we can expect something sensational from Mark Knopfler.
Maybe Springsteen.
But who knows? |

 | Leonard Cohen's music is fantastic. He died last Monday already even before Trump was elected. RIP LC |

  | Mark knopfler headed into country music long time ago, while I like the Songs I do not see any Sensation there in the last 15 years. And He is also already 67 now. Not much younger than Paul eh? Same age as springsteen.
Some Musicians I always missed to see.

 | Mark Knopfler countrymusic? Some off his songs but certainly not much on his latest albums. Live with his band he is super, same level as PS.
About Bryan Adams. Always good setlist with all the hits and a couple new songs. You should go see him one time Bodo! Bon jovi, i've never steen him. Perhaps on his new Tour next year. |

 | And on topic. I've seen the great L Cohen one time about 5 years ago in Gent Belgium. He was great! Also one off the longest concerts i've been to. Almost 3hours on stage for a then 77 year old... |

 | Hi Erwin, the concert in Gent was very very good, I also attended. Saw him also in 2008 in Amsterdam Westerpark, and 2012 Olympic Stadion, which were also fabulous! |

 | Saw Suzanne (not the Suzanne L.C. wrote about) Vega a few days ago on TV.
She played with only one Guitarist and before a few hundred people. Born 1959.
Sad, because she is still good. |

  | I can't believe this news, I have loved Leonard's songs so
much and a few months ago decided I was going to see him in
concert! That album "You Want It Darker" is one of my favorites now. So sad. |
