Not quite Klausi. It is no 1 at the half way stage and hopefully still will be on 10 June when the next chart comes out !

Hi Brenda, you are right, he is leading the midweek charts.

Let´s hope he will continue to sell...

Anyway it is a great start.

On Friday he would be the official Nr. 1. Last year he was it with his collection, his last Studio Nr. 1 Album was ROTS, after Graceland and Paul Simon.

So far no Single as Nr.1 in the UK, I think this will remain.

Wow! With 45.000 miles ahead.

In Germany (a big market) it is No. 14 in it`s first week, the highest position he reached since ROTS. The reviews here are extremely good in all important News-/musicpapers.

Billboard itself predicts it as No. 3 with sales of over 60.000. Drake with 125.000 will remain No. 1.

No. 3 would be his highest entry ever. (SBOSW was No. 4 at first) and his second highest Album Charts position.

Even Graceland was not better with No. 3 as best, but sold 5 Million copies over a very long period of time in the US.

Paul`s only No. 1 Album in the US was Still crazy.

I think Stranger to Stranger is too strange and complicated for most American ears but not for those in the Uk, where new sounds are registered and rewarded earlier, see Beatles, Stones, Marley, Pink Floyd, Bowie etc.

Sorry Brenda, I hope I am wrong and the Album goes at least Gold. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.

"Stranger to Stranger is too strange and complicated for most American ears"

LOL !!! Ok, Klausi, let's see what our US fellows think about that. Maybe they will agree, I don't know.

By the way, I hope these numbers do *not* include all the CD's given away to all ticket buyers, because then it would be a bit 'staged'.

Hi mog,

my personal hope is StS will have an enduring effect to all listeners who are a little bit or more dissapointed what we get as popular music today.

And concerning America we all are aware that the best popular Music of 20.th century came from the US including Jazz in different styles as Swing, Big band, Dixieland, or from guys Paul think of better than him like Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin.

And the "black" Music like Blues and Soul.

Germany and Austria had and have almost nothing to compete.

French Chansons are respected by people in the "upper class". Brel, Piaf etc. But nothing popular in a sense of Beatles or Pink Floyd or Paul Simon.

Mozart!

And then there was that guy in the 80's having a hit again when using Mozarts 2nd name - Amadeus.

No you are right, from the perspective of international music Austria is close to death. I enjo it so much to visit all the places with live music in the states, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Chicago

BTW: About Paul Simons sales numbers.
I think we have to agree that Paul Simons listeners are from an age group where it is pretty normal to buy an "album" and not a mp3 download. And also for Paul Simon you would not buy a single, you always buy the album. So todays younger stars can not compete in album-sales with him very well, as their audience usually is subscribed to some streaming service providing them with the 2-3 hits from every star.

Also I guess a lot of people had pre-orders that album, so it will be high in the charts first...and then maybe fall down fast. (I am happy if I am wrong)

BTW: I bought the mp3 meanwhile - tried to order the audio CD on amazon.com yesterday, but it was "unavailable" for 2-day shipping (said it will ship when available) - so would arrive on June 14, too late for my travel scedule).
So I guess amazon was a little bit surprised by the higher demand...

I bought the MP3 album on iTunes last friday as I knew I would not get near a record shop (too few nowadays) until later in the weekend. I was very disappointed to find I didnt have access to lyrics, sleeve notes or who was playing what in each song - very annoying!!! I'm sticking to CDS
