Indeed !

Very interesting.

Simon worked his bu*t to keep us interested in listening.

Exactly the opposite Radiohead just did with their new album !

I really, really hate to say it, but from the short parts you can hear att JPC, they are just more of the same from what we got on Surprise. Boring and far fetched. I can well understand why Simon choses NOT play many of these songs live. Last album was a small step towards more listenable, melodic music again, but this is just going to appeal to a small number of already existing fans.

I'm going to buy the album anyway (the deluxe edition) since I gather that this will probably be his last full album and I have everything else that he has done. But frankly, I'm much more impressed by the two new Monkees-songs that has been released from their coming new album! Looks like that will be the best albm of 2016 for me.

You might be right Hakan, but I suggest to wait on June 3 for an official review !

By the way, the snippet from Stranger to Stranger sounds a lot like Sting in my ears.

I think it is a Mix between surprise and sbosw, definately I hear a lot of so sounds that I already know from other albums. I like cool Papa belle and the riverbank as also stranger to stranger, think proof of love too. What the hell is clock? I agree that an Album with more melody and rhythm would be pleasing... Well...wont happen, too Bad. When i look back to over the last 20 years I only Listen the capeman as a Full Album... On all other ones I skip songs...

For a more simple sound, maybe we have to focus on the songs he has been working with Edie. Otherwise...

On the other hand, imagine that he does an acoustic record like The Paul Simon Songbook to kind of close the circle of his career. I am sure there would be a flood of good reviews !

But his muse visits him very rarely nowadays when he is sitting alone with a guitar.

I like very much what he recorded in the past. Longer ago. I think Cool Papa Bell is nice.. but the others songs seem to be not so attractive to me (understatement). His last album which was a real quality PS album was Surprise. For me.

To early to judge, I like cool papa bell and Insomnia Lulleby very much and even wristband has it´s moments and proof of love and strett angel seems very good, Riverbank have I heard before and it´s very good and Warewolf have I heard from live concert and I like it to and the others have I not heard enough of for a statement.

Yes, too early to judge. We know Wristband, Cool Papa Bell, and the Lullaby.

I am sure, if he wanted to make an Album with pleasing but simple melodies like Kathy`s song, April come, A most peculiar, Patterns, Old friends, Slip slidin etc etc. he would be able.

The last really simple song was Ten years and it is a great song, but also That`s where I belong.

Graceland`s music was not so simple as one at first thinks, but it sounds simple and full of joy. On ROTS there were very great Songs like Furhter to fly, She moves on, Born at, Spirit voices, The coast.

He doesn`t want to write easy listening songs. I know nobody who likes all Simon-Songs, but very many people who like some desperately.

Who could like Cool, cool river AND the Sound of silence?

I don´t think his songs are so diffecult but I think he has that skills they are growing very much after som listening.Insomnia on this album remainds me of some Simon and Garfunkel tune, Proof of love is not more complecated and American tune for me. Roots is one of his more complecated albums to me but the taste are diffrent. Many people likes the afterlife from the last record that are not my favorite of his song.

In the American made list of the greatest songwriters of all time published recently here he was at Nr. 8. Which is not bad, but I don`t like those lists at all and this one was really leaving out some important Englishman.

He was cited there as sounding always very serious compared to others as Bob Dylan.

I think this is true, his voice, easily regognized by fans between many others always has a certain tendency to seriousness and melancholy. This makes a very interesting contrast on more happy songs like on TGRS or Graceland.
