No. 8 might be fair, considering he is judged better than James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Neil Young, David Bowie, Elton John, Leonard Cohen and Brian Wilson.

Where are Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and Roger Waters?

An American list including country stars etc. Christine McVie would be angry to see Stevie Nicks instead of her (Fleetwood Mac)!

Bob Dylan No. 1? Surprise, Surprise...

I usually hate these Rolling Stone lists. This one is not as bad as some others. However, as usual they list too many new stars and too many Americans. And of course they really don't mean "of all time" -- no Gershwin, Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Van Heusen, Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Foster -- just to name a few.

I certainly don't think that Smokey Robinson or Carole King should be higher than Paul. And since this is Rolling Stone, I suppose they cannot help but say something profoundly wrong -- Dylan is the only one of his generation to remain innovative? (Or words to that effect.) Yikes!

But I agree with Klausi that for once they correctly listed Paul ahead of people like Springsteen, Wonder, Joel and Neil Young.

Stange how americans, especially The RS Magazine, are fascinated by ranking lists...

PS after Carole king/Gerry Goffin and Jagger/Richards: i'm not sure that these two "duos" are better than Paul and if you take them individually, not a chance (C. King maybe but no...).

Charts show a clear result as in sports and most movies. We are longing for that as reality is so difficult and complicated.
