Would be interesting to know if that list has changed a little bit up till now. I doubt it, as he still seems to love Mystery Train... well even in 1987 those songs have all been oldies already (...beside LBM)

So what kind of modern music does Paul ever listen?

He performed "If it`s Magic" by Stevie Wonder at the inauguration of Obama. But this song was from 1977, so he knew it by 1987. But he admires Wonder`s work, I guess.

His real favourite composers are f.i. George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, but they worked before the Rock and Roll aera.

He certainly also admires classical composers like Bach, thinking that the main melody of American Tune was composed by him.- But funny enough, that is not true. Bach has "stolen" the melody from another composer.

Paul was proud when asked by Leonard Bernstein for contributing a verse for his "Mass" in the early seventies. Simon`s verse was "Half the people are stoned and the other half are waiting for the next election. Half the people are drowned and the other half are swimming in the wrong direction".

Does he - for example - really admire John Mayer a lot? (would he be on that list today). I mean, they had that music special on TV, but I never ever heard anything about Paul and John before or after that event.
