SIMON AND GARFUNKEL TO PREMIERE NEW SONG DURING EXCLUSIVE RADIO
INTERVIEW WITH NPR´S SCOTT SIMON ON WEEKEND EDITION SATURDAY, JUNE 12

WASHINGTON, DC -- The first new Simon & Garfunkel song to be broadcast in more than three decades will make its debut this weekend on NPR´s Weekend Edition Saturday. As part of an exclusive radio interview with NPR´s Scott Simon, host of Weekend Edition, Art Garfunkel will introduce a song by Paul Simon called "Citizen of the Planet." The musicians, who rarely do interviews together, will appear on Weekend Edition on June 12 in the only radio interview the pair is doing to preview their 2004 "Old Friends" tour.
Listeners to Saturday´s Weekend Edition interview will also be among the very first to hear how Simon and Garfunkel have updated some of their legendary songs, as the interview will feature excerpts from the forthcoming "Old Friends" tour CD.

An extended version of this interview, along with songs and photographs, will be on http://www.npr.org

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel have won six Grammy awards together: two in 1968 and three in 1970, winning Record of the Year twice, and also a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2003. Their "Old Friends" tour, beginning June 10th in Albany, New York and ending on July 31st in Rome, Italy, follows their overwhelmingly popular "Old Friends" 2003 tour.

NPR´s Peabody Award-winning correspondent Scott Simon brings a well-traveled perspective to his role as host of Weekend Edition Saturday, which has been called by The Washington Post "probably the best-written and most entertaining news program on the dial." Simon has received numerous other awards, including the Alfred I. DuPoint-Columbia University Award, a Presidential End Hunger Award, a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and an Emmy.

It is not really a new song. Citizen of the Planet is a song Paul wrote some years ago.

So what is that now?

This message is more than curious. It says- first new S&G song in 30 years, and then they come with Citizen of the planet??

More curious is that we just got an interview where Paul said they will not record again (and Art said how wonderful that would be - to record...and it is a strange possibility...and uh ah oh)
and 2 days later we get this message.

But wait - Art will introduce the song? Did this guy record a new version of this demo alone and mixed his voice into the recording? Hm, I´m afraid - he could do that with every song and we will get around 150 new S&G songs in the next few months. :-

These 2 guy´s really have a problem IMO, touring around for nostalgic..well okay, but now they can tour around with banners ´S&G - Old Friends Tour + first premier of a new S&G song in 30 years´...only the new song is 20 years Old and the guy who wrote it tought it doesn´t fit to his voice and his songwriting...

That´s music management from it´s best side... come sell us more, we consume.

Wasn´t Citizen of the Planet part of the ill fated ORIGINAL Hearts And Bones album?

No the song wasn´t ever really recorded from what I knew.
He once played 1 strophe on Letterman in 1984, and some sources say it has been played live in Australia 1984.

Later Paul said it isn´t his voice and it also doesn´t fit to him to sing a anti-nuclear song. He will give it to another group...

Hm, at the moment it seems to me this guy is more living in his past than exploring new land´s. Re-recording Citizen of the planet, then he played Soft Parachutes live. Or is he in a anti-war mode? :-)

Listen to the song
If you like it great...
If you dont thats cool....

personally most of Artie´s solo stuff does not do a thing for me -
Paul´s done some amazing stuff and some stuff that I find indifferent - but when they get together they reach right into my soul.

To get a new variant of that direct tap into the inner me frankly floats my boat :)

End result I coudnt give a damn it its an Old song / new song or whatever - its got to be truthfull to the original S&G is the only thing I ask :)
