 | Hello all,
Really loved the concert. Anybody else was there ? Joey ?
They are close to perfection. There are a few strange things here and there that they could polish. For example, Simon arriving with his guitar to play The Boxer when Sting just finished one oh his big hits (the arena being on fire) was an akward moment. Maybe they were in a rush for the time (they have to pay a surplus if they exceed 11:00 p.m.) or Simon was just jealous that Sting was the one who, most of the time, got the crowd in fire.
I found Simon´s voice in *excellent* shape (maybe better than in 2011!). The guy was relaxed and fun, completely confident in himself. Actually, at first, when they showed up on stage, I thought that he could have smoked a little something.
Good chemistry between the two guys on stage (have someone seen this ever between S&G ?!). I prefered when they were singing together rather than sharing vocal parts on a tune. Sometimes, the smooth voice of Simon is not a natural match for some of the masculine pulse of Sting stuff. But, as many have reported for the last weeks, their blend is beautiful.
In terms of songs, I loved the arrangement for Graceland and Me and Julio (fantastic jam at the end!). I would have dispensed the ´Mystery Train/Wheels´ stuff and replace it with something else (Kodachrome, Cecilia, etc.) given this crowd´s taste for hits.
And of course, there was this puzzle about BOTW. If I were Garfunkel, how I would I feel ? Not very good probably. Sting does a beautiful job at it. Quite frankly, it is sad, but even with Artie back at 95%, I don´t know if he can still top that.
There is still this S&G issue kind of under the surface for the connaisseur. The average spectator could protest that they were not enough S&G songs in the show (America is played only by Sting, and BOTW was reportedly a song Sting wanted to perform). Also in their tour program, one can notice that Sting discography includes The Police + solo, which is not the case with Simon (focus on solo only). I feel that Paul is still making a point with this tour.
Anyhow, let´s not overanalyse. If you still catch this show, do it without hesitation. It still resonates within me today.

 | I presume Artie might have some copyright over s&g songs and there may be a limit to how many another singer (not Simon)can perform. Joking apart this could have been the favour asked of Artie |

  | Are you joking Scaaty? :-)
I think it is simply because they wanted to play more upbeat songs. But Mrs. Robinson would be a good option. |

  | Not sure how Art could possibly have any copyright over songs written by Paul! Agree with Bodo best to have more upbeat numbers. Cecilia and Mrs Robinson could be an option though but I am very happy with the setlists so far! |

  | BTW:
There are 5 Police songs and 3 S&G songs...
10 Stings songs and 14 PS songs
not that big difference, you see that both prefer to play their solo works. And Paul has a much longer solo career...
I do not see anything special against S&G in that setlist. |

  | Oh and mog - is it true that there are much more Sting fans than Paul Simon fans? I would expect that...it is sad..but a fact. So it is a hard terrain for Paul.
I prefer not to read any Sting forum... I would expect some Simon bashing there :-( |

 | Hi Bodo...
I don't know about 'party' affiliation of the crowd, quite frankly ! It was not as an obvious element as in the case of the Bob/Paul tour of '99.
It seems to me at first that Sting was the one who got the place in party, but reviews I have seen mentioned that with the evening progressing, Simon was getting more and more acclamation.
As performers, I found that Sting was less expressive in general than Simon. I found the latter very funny and relaxed. It was interesting to see his evolution as a performer from the ubber manerism of YTO tour to this current one. He has loosen up a bit. |

 | I'd say AG must have some Say over performances of the S&G back catalogue especially as some of the arrangements have been accredited to him. Either ways he probably won't be too happy if the S&S tour were to be extended!
Has anyone checked out any Sting/police websites - I'd imagine they would be quite positive now that the tour is turning out so well. |

 | Scaaty, I doubt, that anybody has to ask permission, whatever song they play live, as long as the writer of the song gets his royalities from the ticket sales. The author of the song must get paid, but he defintely can´t stop someone from singing his songs at a concert. Imagine if everybody who is performing in public has to ask all people involved in the recording of a song to give permission to his performance. But I agree, that there might be some hard feelings on someones side to the fact, that this tour gets such great reviews by the press and the public |
