 | Bof...
I watched it. This is not a S&G performance...
I mean we can count on the fingers of one hand, the number of times when Simon actually looked at his partner. There is no chemistry between these two men here. Simon looks like he is alone on stage.
Isn't the very period of time before they did not speak with each other for about 10 years? |

 | That's absurd. Paul has been quoted as saying that people made a big deal about the fact that they didn't look at each other, but he said that they never looked at each other, they were focusing on the music.
The harmonies in this concert and in the '93 Children's Health Fund show (the one with Neil) were better than anything else they've ever done, including the '60's. The sound is indescribably good. |

 | Great recording -love the horns on he boxer- but as Bodo says not much chemistry neither look as if they are enjoying themselves just going through the motions. What is most unusual is that it is Paul doing the talking not Artie who seems to have a bit a throat problem |

 | Again -- They never had on stage chemistry -- they were always rather awkward.
The only tour where they ever interacted was the Old Friends tour, and that was rehearsed.

  | IMO the 1993 Concerts Paul and Art were at their best. The Harmonies were amazing. Just so great to get good video coverage as apart from "America" at the Bridge School Benefit it has previously been very poor quality. I really do not care if they never look at each other, there is no need to when you sound this good! Even in the early days they never did . The two songs they backed Neil Young at the CHF benefit in March of that year were brilliant. |

 | Humm...not in agreement with Jon here.
I agree that this Bridge concert could be more enjoyable in an audio version rather than the video one.
I don't agree that this could be compared equally with S&G of most of the '60.
From what I recall, there were big tensions during that '93 series of shows. Same before the CITP 81 in fact.
For me, if it was not for an authentic sharing moment, they should have abstained. Many times in their career, they did not have that wisdom.
I recall the '09 shows as very happy ones.
I saw them in Toronto in 2003 and it was not good. Simon, as a solo act, obliged to do the S&G trick once again to fill stadiums... |

 | Garfunkel at the end of the Bridge show: '*My* great pleasure to be here'.
Two solo acts put together for a set of songs under the umbrella of S&G. |

 | That great shake of hands in CICP:

Feels so authentic and natural.
Days before, they thought about cancelling the show because they could not stand each other. After the concert, they went both separate ways to celebrate the concert with their own friends.
Sorry folks, I am on fire today. I just think that the S&G is way overrated sometimes. |

  | If you watch the DVDs of Central Park and the Old Friends tour, most of the songs, especially the uptempo ones, have Paul Simon singing throughout with Art doing a bit of backup. Art usually comes in late on the line, sings inaudibly or is just there for a bit of backing vocals. It kinds to me like 80/20 between them.
And having seen them both live as solo acts, the weakness of Art's performances, the large gaps between songs, etc compared to the strength of Paul's voice, long sets, few breaks, etc all goes to confirm my suspicions about how unequal they are as an act. |

  | Interesting in the Bridge school video though to see the change in Paul'd demeanor when Van Halen came on! |

 | Matthew: The sam can be said about many of their studio recordings from the 1960's also. That is that Paul is the lead singer and Art harmonizes with him on the majority of the songs.
Speaking of the Central Park performance, it might be relevant to remind everyone that Art re-recorded most of his singing afterwards in the studio. So what we are hearing is not (for the most part) Art singing live. |

 | This was not a very happy time for the duo. During the 20+ concerts in New York the previous month (October 1993) they didn't get along at all back stage. I have heard this first hand from a very reliable source who was there at the time. |

  | Perhaps that is why the sound is not in synch with Art's singing on the video. The same is not true of Paul which gives the impression that Paul is doing most of the singing.
It looks like Art has forgotten the words. Perhaps he thought it didn't matter if he was going to re-record it all in the studio? |
