Surprise is great to listen to in the car or with a headset. I love Paul's excellent guitar playing on this album. He was joined by a small group of excellent musicians. I think when you focus too much on the electronic sounds you miss the excellent playing on this album. BTW I like the sounds of Brian Eno on this album :)

For me ROTS is Paul's best album, everything is in perfect balance, no flaws in this album.

No 5 star song this time for the Capeman, oops. So in that case also all further albums might not get more than 4 stars I believe.
At least I personally would have put Bernadette on the top and gave it 5. I remember Paul once said this is the best song he wrote since Graceland, and also his brother and manager said this is the best work Paul ever did. It has so many changes in speed and rhythm.
But I agree with the rest, Can I forgive him, Satin summer nights, Trailways Bus..then I would include Born in Puerto Rico into my order.
I personaly love Sunday Afternoon, but it really could be because of Ednitas voice.

So here’s how the story goes.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe
she was baking a cinnamon pie.
She fell asleep in a washing machine and woke up in a hurricane eye

My favourite song.

2nd is Darrling Lorraine, so I agree on that.

***** Hurricane Eye (live from Paris)
***** Darrling Lorraine
**** The teacher (live from Paris)
**** Love
**** YTO
*** Old
*** Senorita
*** Pigs
*** Thats where I belong
** Look at that
** Quiet

Well, overal I would agree that Surprise is a better album than YTO, and yes - most songs are upper level while none is really outstanding (as becoming an all-time hit).
I still would wonder how that albums sounds without all the electronic sounds by Eno. You understand, the songs Paul has written alone with his guitar. Or if he would have recorded it in the same style as "So beautiful or so what (album)"

Whats so sad about that album: As Paul said he mostly can not re-produce that sound live most of the songs will never be played again. It is a sound that only existed for a few months in the studios in NY and London. (Everything about it, Sure don't feel like love, Thats me, Another galaxy, Once upon a time...)

All time Paul simon classic: Father and daughter.
