 | Phil Ramone, the Grammy Award-winning engineer and producer who applied his platinum touch to recordings with Ray Charles, Billy Joel and Paul Simon, has died at the age of 72.
Ramone“s son, Matt Ramone, confirmed the death. The family did not immediately release details, but Matt Ramone said his father was "very loving and will be missed".

  | I heard this on the radio last night. Sad news indeed, especially as he was instrumental in helping Paul make Still Crazy After All These Years, a very difficult album because Paul's hand injury prevented him from playing guitar properly. Paul said he was the only producer that he ever heard Roy Halee speak highly of.
He was not 72 though, the Guardian have that wrong. He was born in January 1934 which made him 79 when he died. |

 | In his book, Ramone told how he met Paul Simon for the first time in 1971: Paul called him (!), and someone else first was at the phone. This guy shouted, Phil, there is Paul Simon for you. Ramone thought, it was a joke.
But it wasn`t-Roy Halee was not available for recording "Me and Julio..." So it was Ramone whom he recommended. |
