 | What do you think of the extra bonus tracks on every CD of this 9 disc Boxed Set?
Is it worthwhile the money? about $150,00.
In my opinion some of them are really interesting, there are more bonus tracks as I expected.
For the new fans who start the collection it´s great stuff. |

 | Yes for a new fan´s it´s great stuff, but it´s overpriced in any way.
Even if you are a new fan you maybe have around 2 or 3 albums and one of the collections already I think. They sell the albums as if they are released new (16,60 $ per CD), but most of the 70´s albums you get for half the money today.
For me this collection is a provocation - why?
Because the ONLY people who really want these DEMOS are the real fan´s who already have EVERYTHING.
I will not post what I´m going to do, everyone should know how to spend his money.
I´ll only post another example here, what other artists give to their fan´s. Bruce Springsteen released in 1999 a 4Cd set with 66 unreleased tracks (SIXTHY-SIX UNRELEASED SONGS)
This box cost´s 45 US$ and it includes hit singles like ´Sad Eye´s (was number 1 here) and ´Growin up´ (used in many movies, for example Big Daddy)
I don´t think they will sell a lot of these boxes, but the CD´s will replace the original albums in stores later (yes every CD will be released alone too)
I hope there is someone in Paul´s management who will release the demos and few unreleased tracks on another CD later, until that.... |

 | My opinion about the new box set.
Sorry to get controversal again.
I´ll not mention any things which have been already said (concert tickets), I´ll only talk about this new boxed set.
Nice idea!
We get all these wonderful unreleased tracks. Yeah!
Only one problem. I FEEL LIKE AN I*** IF I´LL BUY THAT FOR 150$
What do the guy´s at Warner and Simon´s management (or the master himself)
think about his fan´s? Do they think we all live up in the Beverly Hill´s around
L.A and cudgel our brain the whole day how we can spend our 250.000.000 $ incomme per year
and not get bored when buying the 10th Ferrari? (hey, I still compare his music to a Ferrari...)
Now someone will say: "What do you want guy, you get these wonderful Simon tracks, for
years not released, then pay a little bit for it...come on....that´s worth some money - money money money"
Oh you are right, I´m a die hard fan, one of these guy´s without a brain and the high
moral not to download anything available from the internet because I appreciate my master. And I´m
sure these tracks - which haven´t been worth for Simon to be released on these albums originaly
years back - are worth this money today.
And hey, other musicians doing the same things. Look at Bruce Springsteen for example.
Yeah, I was a stupid little kid when I bought his ´Tracks´ set 5 years ago. 66 unreleased tracks on 4 CD´s
for 45$, not compareable to Simon´s 25 early Ferrari versions which I can now drive in a rough way plus all
the Ferrari´s with the new testarossa varnish. I wonder which of Simon´s demo versions will become
#1 in the chart´s, as Springsteen´s "Sad Eye´s2 became
To everyone at Warner and around Simon and his management.
Get your ass up, put the stuff on a double CD we can use, sell it for 20$ and name it ´Thank you´
Sorry to everyone who can´t understand my opinion.
I´m a true fan but I´m not loosing saliva when I say the word ´Paul Simon´
Bodo Malo
P.S.: Ferrari is ok, but I´m not a fan.

 | I think the price is much to high.
It´s a good idea to put the unreleased stuff on two disc´s for $20,00.
Or do it another way like Neil Diamond for instance. He put out a Stages Box Set which contains 5 CD´s with 83 tracks previously unreleased and 1 DVD with 12 performed songs and a backstage video documentary.
And all of it for $53,99 at Amazon. |

 | Hey!
People are very frustrated around here !
It is sure that the price of this boxset is incredibly high for Old stuff, as was the 1993 box set by the way.
But are you really surprised ? They even sell the Paul Simon Songbook at the same price than the latest CD from Beyonce ! This is Paul Simon and Paul Simon´s music, he is very proud of his work and they won´t sell this on discount at Wal-Mart. But yes, it should be at a better price.
Personnaly, I don´t think we can compare with Springsteen although I understand your frustration. Simon is not as prolific as the Boss. We all know that 99% of what Simon has written is released and this is why the "new" stuff of this boxset is, in fact, unfinished stuff or demos. Even if he would like to, I am not sure we would be able to provide 50 news songs for his fans.
Also, I don´t think we can count on a future release of a CD that would contain only the unreleased stuff !!! They want your money ! They want you to buy again the same songs that you have already in triple !
So, in short, to be more brilliant than they are, someone in our group should buy the set, burn all the unreleased stuff on a CD and make it avalaible at a reasonnable price for the fans here.
Do you see other options ? Otherwise, each of us will be screwed once again for songs that were once judged not worth releasing, but have just been discovered - what a miracle - in the vault as gems in the last 6 months. |

 | So, someone should have all the expenses and the others the profits....?
Well, there is another way, we could buy them with several persons together and share the costs and than burn them for each other, for those who paid for it.... That sounds more fair to me. |

 | Whatever these guy´s at Warner think about us, I think it´s a provocation to take 150 $ and we should find the right answer for it.
I´m only interested in a few songs -the unreleased stuff- all these demos aren´t worth a lot for me. IMO these are just early stages of the songs, unfinished and not compareable to the original. I would maybe listen 1 or 2 times to these demos but never again then.
I hope these new releases will not replace the original albums. The song order and the whole album concept was always very important for Paul - that´s for example the reason why Thelma is not on Rhythm Of The Saints. The original album will always be the true one and shouldn´t be replaced.
At the time I´ll wait and see what will come. Maybe someone from Paul´s management heard us and they will release the unrelesed songs and demos on a double CD.
They maybe tought they are doing it for the true fan´s, but at the time this is just too much. Paying 150 Euros for concert tickets, 150 Euros for a box set...
the only strange thing IMO was that the Songbook only cost´s 10 Euros. That was a good price for it´s first release on CD.
But also the other older albums aren´t wort a lot, Paul Simon. Rhymin Simon... you can get them for 4 to 6 Euros on ebay, for 9 in a shop.
Normaly a box should cost less than buying all the albums separately, not more.
I think we should wait a little bit and then find the right answer when the stuff is released... and avialable on ebay. |

 | It is the era of trawling the archives for almost every artist in the world. Now, Paul Simon...9 CD set...unreleased demos...outtakes...Simon tuning up...I´M BUYIN!! |

 | And you have ALL of his albums already on CD?
BTW.: How long do you have to work for 150$ ? |

 | I wouldn´t buy the set because I could buy a decent electric guitar for that much money and I already have some of his solo albums on CD and all of them on vinyl.
But I will probably complete my Paul solo CD collection when they released those expanded versions individually. |

 | I´m certainly not going to spend $150 on CDs I´ve already got! Think of all the useful things I can do with such an amount of money... Besides, the S&G box was only about $40 for five CDs, so I think $150 for nine CDs is just a tiny little bit too much if you ask me!!! |

 | I think everyone agrees it is far too much. For all the people here only the demos and other cool stuff is interesting. I think it are +- 10 songs. That´s $15 for one song........... |
