To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Paul Simon´s classic Graceland, Indie artists have teamed up for a music video series of Graceland covers.

Here is the first rendition at Rolling Stone from Givers featuring Dick Landry: "That Was Your Mother"

Hey toi ! Merci beaucoup, merci...

Where is the Café au lait ?

Well, it looks like French is not completely dead in Louisiana.

Which makes me think of a bit of an inherent contradiction of That Was Your Mother. In that song, Simon seems to mix the Zydeco with the Cajun. Zydeco = music of Afro-Americans from Louisiana; Cajun = music from the descendants of the Acadians deported by the Great Britain in 1755. These two get oftenly mixed. And TWYM seems to entertain this confusion. Still an amazing song !

I would think that this video from RS is more in the cajun style.

I forgot to mention that Cajun here referred to these descendants living in Louisiana as well.

Yes, "Cajun" is a dialectical corruption of "Acadian." Robbie Robertson tells the story of the migration in "Acadian Driftwood." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZwkxHYM7lI
