So... It seems like there´s an amazon exclusive bonus CD, and an exclusive signed poster in the official site. I think that´s pretty greedy, make fans buy the box set twice if they want everything, don´t you think?

Whatever... It is a fan package, so it is for collectors which want to have everything, I guess they do not ask themself the question how they could make you buy more versions of the same thing, the already KNOW you are going to buy it anyway ;-)

Look:
Price for Graceland album 2011 remasters - 6,70 Euros
Price for fan-package-thing - 69 Euros

Does it matter if the price is 69, 89, 129 or 299 Euros? No, because no one else than a few die hard fans will buy that. (So it´s definately a little bit too cheap I would say)

;-)

More interesting to me is that note:
All Around The World Or The Myth Of Fingerprints - Simon, Paul With Lobos, Los / Simon, Paul / Hildago, David / Rosas, Cesa

Did Paul finally (have to) give more credits to Los Lobos?

BTW: I do not see an extra CD on the amazon set...?

You buy the "ultra-deluxe Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition Box Set package" (haha, what a name!)
and you get everything...BUT not the Blu Ray disc with state of the art 5.1 sound - And THIS IS funny now, because the state of the art sound on a Blu Ray is DTS-HD with 7.1 sound or DD-HD 7.1...but not 5.1 ;-)

I buy the BD, think that will be the best offer to me (so I am glad yeah)

When I think back on all the crap
I never bought so far
It´s a wonder I´m a fan at all
And though my lack of hodgepodge
hasn´t hurt Paul Simon
I can hear the Old songs all day long

Amazon says:

The Exclusive disc contains 5 previously unreleased live tracks recorded in San Sebastian, Spain from the Graceland/Rhythm Of The Saints Tour of 1989.
1.Gumboots/Whispering Bells
2.Crazy Love 1 and 2 (Joey says: this must be an error, it´s gotta be Crazy Love, Vol. II)
3.I Know What I Know
4.Homeless
5.Graceland

No idea if the documentary in this set is DVD or Blu Ray.

Based on the official website, it seems as if the box set includes a DVD and not the Blu Ray. So complicated.

Some of those prices are ridiculous -- is this a common practice nowadays? No way!

Hm, but this is not exclusive to amazon (St. Sebastian video)
So you do not have to buy the amazon package without the signed poster.
And it is audio I understand, not a video.
Well nice, anyway the St. Sebastian concert has been aired on TV and is available on self made DVDs.

Let´s hope they did not write "Crazy Love 1 and 2" onto the cover of that CD too - later they release a corrected version and then as a collector you need both of them...

Yeah complicated.
The price for the CD/DVD combo is nice (16$)
http://www.myplaydirect.com/paul-simon/Graceland-2
5th-anniversary-edition-cd-dvd/details/26762496

compared to the Blu Ray alone /(30$)

Now the question is, does this DVD have state of the art 5.1 sound or is it mono...stereo...

Sorry you are right Joey, the amazon thing is different...if it´s true?

But I think thats a mistake - the ultra-mega-gold-platin-silver-and-oxygen-hi-ha-package-edition-set on paulsimon.com should include everything,. That means: for the 250$ you should definately get everything + some of Pauls favourite food named irish pudding.

I somehow doubt what is written on the amazon page, maybe there is some funny guy sitting there who wants to freak us a little bit.... Why take away the "African Concert DVD" and replace it with a CD of only 5 songs... no way.

I went to see Under African Skies at Sundance London and if you´ve got the capability I´d get it on Blu Ray - it sounded awesome.

I´d go as far to say as it´s worth the purchase of a blu-ray player as well!

Oh yeah, you saw the movie Matthew ? How was it ? Do we really learn a great deal compared to the VH1 Classic Album episode made in 1997 ?

Me folks, brace youselves, I am a die-hard fans and I have finally decided not to buy anything. Will wait for the movie to be shown on TV and then we know what happens: someone will post it on internet anyway.

I have read and saw so much about that album that I would really be surprised that the booklet will make me learn or see anything new.

I have bought the album 4 times in my life. That will be enough for me !

But mog you have to buy the album once a year to be a fan. It´s like a subscription fee. lol jk

Mog it´s pretty interesting, quite emotional seeing all the musicians having grown a lot older, the rehearsals from 2011, the stories. Hearing the stuff from Tau Ea Matsekha was particularly interesting to me - here´s the song that became The Boy In The Bubble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbK0zd5vtsE

I kind of assumed most tracks were formed out of jams but this one, at least, was from an existing song. Paul sings with the accordionist in the film and they swap verses from his version to BITB.

It´s also quite a funny film, I think Joseph Shabalala has got very eccentric in his Old age and listening to the African musicians talking about coming to the US and Europe for the first time is really touching.

Also Paul is very open and honest in it, it´s well shot and, as I say, it sounds great so well worth a purchase.

The political stuff was kind of over-done to me but others have said that the opposite is true and they made a potentially interesting film into a Paul Simon musical Love-fest.
