 | Hi my name is Marina,
I am writing a research paper on how three Simon and Garfunkel´s songs; the Sound of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and America influenced society in the 1960´s and the 1970´s. I would like to get from Paul Simon´s perspective what these three songs mean. Does anyone have references to understand the meanings of his songs? Also, can someone help me contact Paul directly?
All the things I have done so far includes:
-Going to Guitar Showcase. I did not have any luck finding someone who knew about the meanings of the three songs of Simon and Garfunkel.
-Read books and watched youtube videos trying to find if Paul Simon gives a meaning about his songs but I have had no luck.
-I talked to many teachers at my school and asked them if they knew a lot about the meanings of the songs. No luck.
So I need some help.

| Great topic for a research paper!
BBC has had some really great specials about Paul Simon´s writing, which contain pretty relevant interviews. The best one I can think of for that time period would be the 1991 BBC Radio Special entitled "The Paul Simon Songbook." | i know SOS was written in the aftermath - and capturing the culture at the time - of the Kennedy assassination. With his performance of it at 9/11, you can draw a straight line from JFK to 9/11/11.
As for the others, get your hands on Songs of America - the doc that was broadcast 1969 for the weaving of the music and culture/history. |
