Rolling Stone has released a new list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." Hendrix still pulls the top spot, as he did in the previous list in 2003. These lists can be debated forever as a great guitarist is more of opinion than a quantifiable fact. What is interesting is that Paul Simon is included at #93. I think it is at least fitting that Paul is recognized for his guitar prowess. Where exactly he should rank is a matter for another debate. I´ve always thought of Paul as a great guitarist and while he may not be recognized as a "Guitar God" because of his superior soloing skills like Hendrix or Clapton, I have always found his style of playing to be complex and very skilled. I´m glad that the people that compiled the list gave Paul some recognition.

Paul´s guitar playing has always had a certain ´sound´... the first time I heard father and daughter it only took the first couple of bars before I said to my wife "This sounds like a Paul Simon lick" and I was delighted when it was a new PS Song... His influence cannot be ignored, and I believe he has developed a style of his own, which is his fingerprint. He is a great guitarist... I still marvel that Bridge was written on a guitar with all those Gospel chords... Awesome ability, and a true great in my book!

Yes, still feel Paul would feel slightly bashful in such company.

Reminds me of his quip after getting to jam with Hendrix, at Monterey in 1967, " I know I didnt lead........"

I don´t get the idea of this list making anyway. First you would have to divide the list between acoustic and electric guitar players - you can´t really put both of them in the same category.

There will always be a lot of discussions, because you can´t list things like that. But maybe that is the idea behind it, to get a lot of response and attention.

Another reason: the rift between Paul Simon and "Rolling Stone" seems finally to be over. "cant say my names well known.....you dont see my face in Rolling Stone. Paul was rumoured to have stolen founding father Jan Wenners girlfriend long ago.
