I do not think Paul Simon should do that (form a duo with Mc Cartney...[except 1-2 songs])
Simon is not that guy who tends to stay in the front row if there is another prominent person, so he would be degraded simply to the ´songwriter´ of Paul McCartneys tunes. And when they tour together they will heavely play Beatles and S&G tunes (at least 70% of the songs), thats not what I want to hear live. Also the audience will be a mix of at least 80% McCartney/Beatles fans and some of us in the minority. I want to see my star as the main act.

Also we have to add: McCartney is today at least 2 categories above Paul Simon in therms of fame and recognition. His tours are bombastic shows in the category of U2, Rolling Stones and a few others. Light is more important than a good sound. We have to acceppt that Paul is today somewhere between Art Garfunkel, Joan Baez, Neil Diamond and a step under Leonard Cohen (who bills higher now and gets more attention after many many years of complete abscence...)

Sure it would be a benefit for McCarntey to have some good lyrics and maybe for Paul to get another ´shared´ hit. But I even think Paul could write a catchy tune if he wants to do that. Maybe his album together with his wife (if it will ever exist) has some of that easy tunes and a surprising hit.

I agree with most of what you are saying Bodo, touring would be difficult. (Which is why I was surprised when Simon toured with Dylan.) I also think that neither one of them would be willing to do a whole album with the other, but perhaps one or two songs. These songs could appear on each one´s album, like My Little Town did. Certainly McCartney would benefit from having Simon push him to work harder. And it would be interesting for Simon to have a partner in the sense of someone with even more ´say´ than Art used to have.

Anyway, this will never happen, so... back to reality.

I think we´re all missing something here - when Simon does ANYTHING it with a lot of thought and consideration. I believe his cover of Here Comes the Sun in the current tour is more than a sweet song that evokes another era of music history. It may well tell us what he thought about the Beatles. IE great respect for George.
Simon and "Silly Love Song" McCartney doing more that a one-off. No.

Of course, this too is why Paul needs to write a biography.

Paul Simon I think view on this would be summed up in that song written by a twenty something year Old in the ´60s " I Am A Rock" . Graceland was a big move for Simon to have so many collaborations - and as someone has suggested earlier he stepped back very much in the live Graceland concerts.
Personally I would hate to see the him with "maccer" who is too poppy for my liking - his concerts (like lady gaga) is about lighting and not about sound (wonder where I got that phrase from:)).
Richard when you brought up this suggestion before I don´t think I ignored but stated that I thought John Lennon would have been the more suitable combination with Paul Simon than Paul mc cartney

There was no period in Paul Simon`s career when you could see him so often as from 2000 till now. Including S&G- reunions, which are poison for his career.

So he has a similar problem now like Bob Dylan or Elton John, whose shows oftenly are not sold out, as was the case with the last tour of the Stones. In 1991 Paul played Munich in the sold out (10.000) "Olympia-Halle" and Bob Dylan in "Circus Krone" one day later, not sold out, capacity 5.000.

Madonna, Springsteen, U2 are always sold out. And some actual acts like Adele or Lady Gaga.

But I am sure Paul Simon will not play Las Vegas for a couple of months like Elton John or this woman with the Titanic-song. This is the easiest way to make money, no travelling, no sound checks etc.

There is more in life than sold out shows. Paul´s shows keep amazing me, the quality is stunning. I enjoy his new album, his touring, look forward to the Webster Hall DVD, The Graceland boxset. I am enjoying what he still gives us and not what he should give us. He is still very much appreciated by most of his fans who understand what he is doing and why he is doing it.

Yes Ans, there is definitely more in life than sold out shows. Almost without exception, rave reviews of both Paul´s performance and that of the band. The Love and appreciation of Paul from the audiences. Paul happier on and off stage than I can ever remember. Unexpected surprises in the shows. The Concert in the Lobby and the almost unrehearsed great performances with the Punch Bros and others. I tunes Festival live and shows streamed all over the world.Brilliant new album and re releases of Old favourites . Many tv and radio appearances and in depth interviews. I too am so looking forward to the Graceland Box set and Webster Hall video. And also the possibility there could be a reunion tour with the Graceland musicians. All this from a great musician ,songwriter and singer who is 70 years young! We should be counting our blessings!

Did anyone of us here buy the Webster Hall DVD? (just curious about the quality / sound - is it as good as Paris?)

I like what Paul is doing now, touring in small clubs and playing a lot of his own songs. Thats why I do not want to see him together with Macca (what of course wont happen)

Good to read this :) I was a bit worried lately that the appreciation for Paul was diminished on this forum...
