 | I´ve just read that REM accounced the end of their band.
Not good, really sad. Hope they just need some time to relax. I see that there have been better times for that band, but to quit that band when all the members are in their mid-50´s isn´t a really clever decission.
I remember the good Old Freddie Mercury, who started a small solo career in the mid 80´s, there where rumours that this will be the end of the band, but they decided later all together what an stupid idea that would be. Found a new band at the age of 40?
And now, REM, will Stipe found a new band at the age of 51? Thats a very late middlife crisis I guess :-)
Anyway, I think the only famous band which never had a reunion was/is ABBA. (the Beatles didn´t really have a chance)

 | whatever stipe does next will no doubt involve him singing "losing my religion" and "everybody hurts" - why do it with a different band in front of fewer people for less money? |

 | Why not ask Paul Simon? |

 | Yeah I think the S&G split was early enough (age of 29/30) to start a solo career.
But Stipe will always be REM and those songs. As many Paul Simon fans still want to see the S&G songs to be in the first row.

 | It´s not about money for the real musicians.. they do it for the music.. and Stipe is all about the music.. he doesn´t care what money he gets as long as he enjoys it. The same for Paul.. he didn´t quit S&G because he wanted more money, obviously.. he was just lucky that what he wanted to do involved getting money |

 | Well - S&G split during their best time, after their best album and because they had serious trouble with each other.
REM had their best time 15-20 years ago (but they still sell a lot of albums because of their big audience), they are still good friends, but what is the last song you remember?
I agree, it has nothing to do with money.
I think they are really bored at the moment. They will make a solo album, and I am pretty sure a reunion in a few years.
A reunion always brings a lot of new energy and new success. |

 | I don´t think that Creedence Clearwater Revival, Robbie Robertson and The Band, Dire Straits, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Soundgarden, The Clash, The Supremes and Jefferson Airplane ever reunited. |

 | I remember about 1969-70, Creedence Clearwater and S&G were just about the biggest acts around for a while. |
