 | For me the September 19, 1981 concert is a milestone in my life. It´s exactly 30 years ago that the concert was given that made me aware of S & G, at the age of 13. I´m 43 now, and I guess I will be listening to their music still when I´m 73... Tomorrow they will be almost 70, how terribly strange to be 70, and at September 19, 1981 they were 39 almost 40. This concert had impact on my life and I´m wondering whether some of you feel the same about that famous Concert in Central Park?

 | It was truly a key moment for me... I was four years Old at the time, but the album was played constantly when it was released, but disappeared into the collection of LP´s until I re-discovered it aged 13 or so... That version of ´Slip Sliding Away´ and ´April Come She Will´ will always be up there among the greats in my opinion, for this very reason. Thanks for the memory! |

 | That´s funny... For me Slip Slidin at that concert, as well as April, are also amongst my favourites of that concert. Slip Slidin even the no 1 fav. Thanks for your reaction!! |

 | Michiel,
Hello! It sounds like you and I had the same experience because the TV special on HBO of that concert was also my main introduction to S+G. This introduction resulted in me going out and buying as much of the music as I could find over the years. Thus, my story is nearly the same as yours, except that I am a year younger at 42 now (but I wont be for long!).
I had the pleasure of telling this story to Paul Simon when I met with him last May and he remarked how at that age (around 12 years) our minds are wide open to accept new things. I´m glad that concert was on TV at such a perfect time for me. I agree with you that I will be enjoying this music still when I am in my 70´s without a doubt!
Happy Anniversary Concert In The Park! Thank you Paul and Art for the wonderful music. :) |

 | great memories. picked up my future wife when she got off a work shift at 1130 pm, said ´we´re going to NY´. drove thru the night. thought we´d check out the park, do a little walking around the City. When we saw the overnight campers, we claimed our spot at 7am. spent the day on a blanket, sleeping, eating street vendor dogs and pretzels. the ´official´ poster still hangs in my house. what an memorable, incredible day. 30 years come and gone so fast. |

 | I was astonished (and thrilled) when I read about the concert in the newspaper the next day -- I thought the duo had broken up for good long before. Went over to the home of my best friend (now deceased) to watch a replay on cable TV. First-rate show and the only time I saw them play a concert together -- very exciting! |

 | I was in New York at that time and I had to return home a few days before the concert, so I missed it. Very sad indeed, but in a hot afternoon I could see it on tv and I felt a great emotion. I feel the same excitement whenever (thousand of times)I see it again.
Thanks. |

 | Thanks DannyJ and Lara for those links. Paul F, not meaning Paul Frederic but Paul Fournier, I was always hoping that some tape of the original CP broadcast is still somewhere... It was a huge event at the time and it was the beginning of the video tape era. Since so many millions must have watched in the USA there should be one person having this original broadcast? It would be very interesting because in interviews Roy Halee mentioned Artie to almost have resung the complete concert for the audio, since his voice at te evening itself had problems, something like having a cold. Roy also told that Paul (Frederic Simon) only resung a few lines of so. I always wondered what the exact sound of S&G was that night, especially Garfunkel. And if that tape exists (it should be somewhere!!) it could give the answers having the original sound. It always feels a bit strange to know that the sound of the concert that I played over and over and over again is in fact not genuine... That means Arties sound.... |

 | I was with friends on the 19th in NY, and we ran into Art and his wife Kim as we were going to have a picnic on the Great Lawn to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that wonderful concert. I was able to tell Art what we were doing. He smiled and said "thanks for keeping the faith".. |
