 | Don´t worry lol. PBS stations always do this as a campaign to raise money. "Donate a ridiculously large amount of money and receive our exclusive collection!" And then a couple months later the video comes out on DVD and is available at most book stores. This is actually a good sign that a DVD is coming.I saw this happen a thousand times before I had cable. |

 | Poor Bodo ;-)
I think there is more to it than we Europeans know about. My guess is that CPBN is a public station that doesn´t get much or maybe no money from the government to support themselves. They have to find other ways to get their money to make programms, pay their bills and employers. With these packages they offer a good product to those who want to make a donation to the Connecticut Public Broadcasting, nothing wrong with that. I don´t think Paul will make money from this deal, he probably also donates money to help them out.
And yes, we could watch iTunes Festival for free and thanks to Patata and Bodo we can watch it still :)
I am happy that there is a new live DVD from this tour and am convident it will be released to the public later this year, would be a great Christmas gift.

 | ans, you are correct that PBS is a a public station, and this is a fund raiser, and it is likely that paul sees no money from it.
It still means that if you are not well off, you do not get to see this video, at least now. That is the antithesis of the idea of a public broadcast station. OR, in other words, this sort of thing bites.
If its a fund raiser, it should still be available to all on a sliding scale depending on what you can contribute, with a very low minimum, and working on an honor system. And if some people cheat, that is still better than pricing the dvd where many real fans cannot get it. Connecticut Public Broadcasting may be great, but Paul should not allow his music to be used in a way that is exclusive to the well off crowd, less financially well off people should get to enjoy it too (in my opinion) |

 | Bodo, the gold program you are offering sounds very good, but I think you should add a "front row" program where whoever gets it, their post could go to the top of page one! |

 | Hmm, if the price was lower the DVD would be on a torrent site in no time. IMO Paul´s music is available to all the people. His new album is available in different formats. If you have a few months longer to wait for a DVD that should not be a problem. The problem is we are all greedy (in a good sense) we all want to see a good live concert from Paul as soon as it is available ...;-)

 | I would buy it for 30-35$ + shipping.
Not sure how many will buy it for 150 (if you know it will be released in a few months). It is not really that I could not afford it, it is just not worth it IMO.
So my price would make more sense. But I see they do not expect a lot of orders, so they can not produce it cheap. Well, thats bad.
They should offer a download only for let´s say 10-15$, it´s absolute no work and no production costs and IMO would attract many people doin something legal.

 | well, the way these public broadcast stations present it (here in the USA at least) is that these are a "gift" you get if you donate money to their station. They would never be so crass as to actually sell something, they are loftier than that. While they claim to service the public, these "gifts" are price specific, and we cannot exactly say they are low cost. It is certainly high enough to shut out many people who would like to see or hear this dvd.
Sure, poorer people can just wait 3 or 4 months and hope that the video will be released for sale, why not? |

 | .." that these are a "gift" you get if you donate money to their station."
It is a kind of tax-reducing thing I guess, to call it a gift. Nothing more.

 | Public broadcasting stations in the United States are, for the most part, self-supporting. Although the government does subsidize PBS, pledge drives and donations in exchange for "free" merchandise provide financing for most broadcast stations. It should be clear that artists, like Paul Simon, donate the merchandise to the PBS stations. The artists are not charging $150.00 for a DVD. Both the artist and the purchaser will normally be entitled to a tax deduction. Look at it this way: If you´ve got $150 that you want to donate to charity, why not choose PBS and get a "free" DVD as part of the donation? http://www.kintera.org/site/apps/ka/ec/Product.asp ?c=luLRJaMQKpH&b=5152819&en=6fKBKLMnH5JKKV NqG4JHLSNBIiKHJOPuFfJPI3PIItF&ProductID=150144 9 |

 | Royd, that is right, the question is what if you don´t have $150.00 to donate to charity. The answer is you don´t get to see or hear the dvd. I think the people who set these things think $150 is not really a lot of money, but somehow don´t understand that for many people it is out of the question these days. And, after all, they are serving the PUBLIC, not the rich public, or well off public. That is why a low minimum with a voluntary higher donation would be more correct, and if people cheat that is just the way it goes. |

 | No, if you don´t have $150 you get to watch the concert on TV for free. And you get to buy it when it´s out commercially for cheap. |
