 | Paul´s performance is all over the place, which is great because it was a very moving performance, touching to see the reaction of the people on the memorial.

 | Ouf ! What a performance...
Solid, solid...just plain self-confidence and appropriate interpretation for a solemn moment.
Thank you Paul !

What a moving rendition of The Sound Of Silence. Thank you Paul.
When I think of New York after the tragedy I also think of Art Garfunkel´s solo hit A Heart In New York. Why because the City has a heart and rallied round after all its pain and came out on top.
Thanks for reading!

 | I have never saw Paul look so sad, I could barely watch it.
He is sure being hacked on some radio stations as why did they
put this anti war, anti American twit on,Taylor got the same
reviews, it was horrible to listen to this, I´m just changing
dials on the radio and this is what I get to hear too much. |

 | The performance is great, but I´m thinking that America, Bridge, or American Tune may have been a better call. |

 | SueR,
thanks for this link to James, that is a good version.
If I can think of one Paul song that would have been good for content it is Bookends theme. "long ago, it must be I have a photograph" and "a time of innocence, a time of confidences" I think a lot of people feel pre 9/11 was a much more innocent time. Bookeneds would be somewhat sad in context. Sounds Of Silence seems to fit in, of course with Paul´s performance. The meaning of the song, I don´t think it has much to do with anything surrounding Sept 11, but it just fits anyway. |

 | I think Sounds Of Silence was the perfect choice. It was inspired by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and was written several months after this event. Pres. Kennedy was a symbol of religious tolerance, being the first Roman Catholic President, and his election helped lessen the formerly strong anti-Catholic feelings in the U.S. Most people in the U.S., and many people worldwide, who are my age or older can remember the exact date (Nov. 22, 1963) and what they were doing when they heard the news.
Besides commemorating a violent event, SOS, alongside BOTW, is the PS song with most universal appeal. It has the traditional folk song theme of human connection as opposed to sadness, loneliness, and alienation. It could be sung by or to a man or a woman. It is particularly appropriate to NY, since it evokes the experience of being an outsider or an anonymous person, but could also describe a big city anywhere in the world. In my mind, PS doesn´t have the vocal range to sing BOTW convincingly as a sole, so SOS is a perfect choice. Sorry so long! |

 | I agree the Sound of Silence was a perfect choice, although if more people knew the song SBOSW, and Paul had a full band, I would say that song would have been a great fit too. |
