Hey - was checking the release date for Graceland. It was August 12, 1986. So, it looks that these guys won´t be able to release their 25th anniversary perfectly on time, but...a few weeks more won´t be no harm.

Is there anybody here who recalled when it came out ? Hoe did you hear about the album, where did you buy it, in what format (tape, CD, vinyl).

Me I discovered the album a few years after, so I count on your 1st hand experience !!

Couple weeks -- more like Christmas at the earliest. Remember the BOTW anniversary didn´t come out until 2011.

I was on vacation. a beach community - so not much access to record shops. Even if I did, no way to play vinyl. Got home on a Sunday and went immediately to purchase. I reummember, reading album notes, thinking ´what has he done now?!?!".
It was, and will always be, the only album I ended up with in 3 formats, vinyl, tape, cd.

I must have bought on vinyl when it first came out and first thoughts were "what on earth is this." It was previewed on Radio 1 extensively and came in at No4 initially in the UK Album Charts.
It´s also one of the few albums that I have on all formats.

The Graceland re-release will probably end up being next year. I don´t know why but they have a habit of knocking these releases back. Remember, that first batch of re-releases were originally listed for February, then April, then May, and they finally landed in June. Graceland was to be a part of that batch, but was pushed back until September. Then ROTS was also listed for September. Well, they´ve been pushed back until October, with One Trick Pony and Hearts And Bones apparently also coming on the same date. Not that it really matters since there are very few additions to make them worth buying again.

Amazon.com lists Graceland for release on October 11, but it´s just a single CD: http://www.amazon.com/Graceland-Paul-Simon/dp/B004

Just a little more info on the Graceland Movie .According to the Sundance Website the Film Festival will take place 19 -29 Jan 2012

Given the great success of this year, I think Sony knows exactly what they´re doing - and are following a great marketing plan for the re-releases. If I´m not mistaken, the Grammy ´year´ closes in October and nominating ballots go out shortly thereafter. Add to that a fall tour and you have Simon, his career, and SBOSW right in the spotlight.

If you look back at 2011, even the pre-SBOSW activites, like Night of Too Many Stars, it´s been a masterful marketing plan.

Graceland was just a pretty vague name to me when I visited the place, I thought it must be an Elvis song or album and was
disgusted at their record shop that no one could find it, this
was in 2003. Nor did anyone say that there was no such song sung by Elvis.
