 | Hi Carol. Interesting that articles sometimes appear again and again ;-) Well it is not really new, thats what I wanted to say...have read about that years ago.
What I can add is the following: My grandmother had a cerebral haemorrhage, after that she could not do anything, she wasn´t/couldn´t talking too. But my grandfather found out after some time, that she still memorized Old songs, and they sang them together.
I personaly think it is not really about beeing a musician what makes you ´smarter´ - it is the training of 2 or 3 different things at one time. You use your voice, you have to follow the rules of a melody, you use your fingers on the instrument - that keeps your brain busy. I can imagine that if you do something else which needs multiple skills, you are also smarter. There are for example those wii / kinect games called Dr. Kawashimas Body and Brain exercise. The games look really stupid, like made for small children, but they are very hard and train your body and brain reacting on different inputs very fast. I think they could even implement voice commands to make it more complex.
Anyway, playing music is for sure more fun. That said: I should try to get my guitar out of its space under the bed. |
