If I could switch some songs, and keep most of the songs Paul is playing at this tour.

I think that the beginning of the concert could have more hits or upbeat songs, or the normal listener gets bored very fast. For people who do not know him the fun starts when he played ´Diamonds´. It does not matter if you play 3-4 of your best songs at the beginning, because after that the audience is open for new material too. Saying that, I create this perfect setlist:

1 The Obvious Child
2 Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes
3 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover
4 Mother And Child Reunion
5 So Beautiful Or So What
6 Slip Slidin´ Away
7 Hurrican eye
8 That Was Your Mother
9 Hearts And Bones
10 Gumboots
11 Dazzling Blue
12 Kodachrome
13 Gone At Last
14 Questions For The Angels/Wartime Prayer
15 Love is eternal sacred light
16 Peace Like A River
17 Proof

----------
18 Sounds Of Silence
19 Rewrite
20 The Boy In The Bubble
21 Born in Puerto Rico
22 Only Living Boy In New York
23 Late In The Evening
----------
24 Still Crazy After All These Years
25 You Can Call Me Al
26 The Boxer

My rules where:
Play something from all the latest studio albums, do not keep the cover versions, as no one is really comming to hear Vietnam or an Elvis song, mix the unknown or slower songs in between the well known upbeat hits, and start with at least 4 well known upbeat songs, to catch the audience from the first moment.

Hurricane eye was one of the most upbeat songs on YTO from Paris, I loved the extendet ending.
Born in Puerto Rico has a incredible rhythm, people can dance to that song easely. and Wartime prayers could switch with Questions. I know
Paul said the songs from Surprise are very hard to play, but this one should work. I replaced
Crazy love with Proof because it is also more upbeat (maybe it is better to replace Boy in the bubble with Proof, because we heard that one so often...)

Things I did not like about this tour...

1. Only one song between Graceland and SBOSW (The Obvious Child)

2. From Hearts And Bones/Mystery Train/Wheels to Slip Slidin, Rewrite, Peace Like A River felt really quite subdued - a lot of slow songs in a row and still plenty to come afterwards as well.

Perfect setlists are almost impossible - I always end up with far too many songs but even if Paul could do one 3hr (instead of 2hr) concert and film it for us it would be fabulous for the fans. I think opening with Obvious Child followed by the two famous album title tracks would set the scene and this encore would whip the crowd into a frenzy!

As you say Bodo - dreamers :)

Not bad suggestions.
I do want to say this tho about the covers: I loved the Vietnam/Mother And Child Reunion. For me this concert (and SBOSW)was about Simon connecting all the dots of of musical influence influences on him and paying tribute to them. Listen and you hear in the album, sampling of the roots of R&R; at the concert Raggae and african, and a tip of the hat to the Beatles (ok, George). It´s all there. I know hard-core fans want to hear ALL Simon. I get it. But his music has always been about more than HIS music. And he really lays it out there this time. And he´s having a great time doing it.

Hi Jon - will try to comment on your setlist - I think that you have too many obscure songs that Paul will never play, and the audience really does not know (Think too much, Ten years, Thats me (unplayable live)...Myth of fingerprints [he will NEVER do that]
And you have too many S&G songs which are not even hit´s, as also you seem to finish the whole concert with S&G songs. I would say you created a good Art Garfunkel setlist ;-)

But I understand that you want to hear that songs, thats absolute fine. I just wanted to add that it is very unrealistic that this will happen ;-)

38 songs Matthew....not even in my dreams this will happen ;-) But I really like The Capeman songs. I do not have a clue why he does not even play ONE of them now. Those songs are IMO perfect for a live setting, and would work better than most songs (live) from YTO, Surprise or SBOSW... Do you need a real horn section for the Capeman songs? Tony, Andy and Mark are doin great on that.

Too bad about That´s Me, it´s really a good song, particularly in the middle. Fingerprints is a great summer song, too, it would be a great encore song. It´s too bad about the nonsense with that other band.
