Was listening to Elvis´s version of Bridge Over Trouble Water, and wondered if he ever met Paul or Art. Anyone know?

Hm, I think I remember reading that he meet him. Someone has to help me out now with more details (wasn´t it in the time when Elvis was already fat...and in the end Paul wasn´t that impressed by his former teenage idol?)

Excerpt from Wikipedia

Elvis Presley recorded it in Nashville on June 5, 1970, and it was released on the 1970 album That´s the Way It Is. He included it in his set list for his next engagement in Las Vegas, which included the filming of the 1970 documentary Elvis: That´s the Way It Is, and the song was included in the original theatrical release (included version is from the August 11 dinner show).[1] During that summer season in Vegas, Paul Simon attended one of the shows, and, after seeing Elvis perform the song, he was reported to have said, "That´s it, we might as well all give up now." Presley continued to use this song throughout his live performances, including his final live appearance in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977. Another live performance was seen in the Golden Globe-winning documentary Elvis on Tour, filmed at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 14, 1972.
On the studio version, Robert Matthew Watson wrote in his book Heartbreak Hotel: "Presley´s outstanding singing is not disguised. This is a fabulous version, burning with sincerity and power, and finding depths not revealed by the composers."

Not sure if I agree with that review though.

Ha, did a quick search on that lines you posted Brenda - and the source is not wikipedia, it is the Paul Simon biography: A Life by Marc Eliot.

What I mean is - not you are wrong Brenda, people just post copies of that book on wikipedia...and they do not even mention the source.

Didn´t Paul say in the interview with Michael Kay, that he never met Elvis Presley?

Yes Elvis did sing "bridge" at Indianapolis, I was at that show, just was strolling by, new in town and found a guy that
you would call scalper today, but I got a great seat for the
original price, $15. Imagine that today. Heartbreak Hotel was
written by Hoyt Axton´s mother, and Hoyt does a completely
different version of it I saw on Youtube, rather upbeat. I
only heard that he just thought Elvis was ok singing that song and should have sung it as "gospel music." I don´t think they ever met.

This is why Paul needs to write an autobiography.

Yeah, but a ghostwriter should do it, and Paul should not spend months or even years on writting a bio. I prefer him writting songs.

I agree with you Bono. I prefer him writing songs also, a good biography would be nice though. A ghostwriter is an excellent idea. I don´t think that it will happen, Paul loves his and his families privacy. His songs tell us a lot.
I can live with that.

"... finding depths not revealed by the composers"? Sadly typical of Elvis-worshipers, they have to offer a put down to anyone they feel threatened by. I like Elvis and have a lot of his music, but some of his followers are over the top. (Same with Michael Jackson fanatics.)

Not to mention the fact that the fellow who wrote that book was so misinformed that he thought Bridge had composers, instead of one composer.
