 | 1) Tied: "Surprise" & "So Beautiful Or So What"- Either are as great an album as he´s ever made, and the best records of the last 15-20 years or so.
2/3) "You´re The One"- a fine album, that´s grown on me. Reminds me of either "Still Crazy After All These Years" or "One-Trick Pony" in it´s generally subdued nature & beauty.
3/4) "Songs From The Capeman"- Still a very good record, but maybe his least realized. Like "One-Trick Pony" it is a concept album, and interestingly enough is the source of the greatest amount of known unreleased Paul Simon songs.

 | It is interesting that some folks prefer YTO and Surprise to SbOSW, but to each there own...In my opinion The most recent is better by more than half, than the previous albums...As for the Capeman, I think a lot of the controversy was about the subject itself (i.e., the "reformed killer" aspect)) and apparently the stage show did not work very well...however, he recently revamped it with the Spanish Harlem singers, and it went over very well...I thought it was a very good piece if work, with the various musical styles, and perhaps got trashed more than it deserved... |

 | This is hard to say cause I Love all of his work but if I had to...
SBOSW
Surprise
YTO
Capeman
So Beautiful, Surprise and YTO are very closely matched, but as much as I like Songs From The Capeman it´s probably my least favorite solo record PS did. |

 | Scaaty and David, count me in. I Love the Capeman as well. At the moment I would switch the bottom two, though:
1. Capeman
2. SBOSW
3. YTO
4. Surprise
I find that these rankings can change on me, but I am pretty sure the Capeman will always be at the top of this list for me. I loved it from the first time I heard the opening chorus on Adios Hermanos... |

 | Surprise was sheer poetry put to music. very under rated. SBOSW is as well, with a bit more ´bounce´ and upbeat.
YTO, I ranked 3rd. It had been so long since ROTS, it was just nice to have him back. It does grow on you - but over all a bit subdued.
Capeman - excellent, but that it was a set of songs that propelled the stage narrative. it was a lot like OTP - written around the movie. Not bad songs - but ´project´ albums don´t rank as high for me. |
