I am surprised Haddad is still on the band for the Europe part. I thought Shehan would take the relay on the Old continent. It does not sound fair since Shehan is responsible for most of the sound gem behind SBOSW.

Whatever...

Really, i Did not know that, shehan recorded with paul. Yeah Not fair, and shehan is more talkative on stage... or funnier, whatever.

actually, Paul is responsible for most of the sound behind SBOSW. These guys are working musicians and no one if forcing any of them to play with PS. I guess if they were not satisfied with the way he treats them, they wouldn´t do it. I doubt every contribution comes with a lifetime contract, otherwise Paul F would be on tour with him now!

I was wrong saying that Shehan was behind most of sounds gem of SBOSW. Checking the credits, Shehan appears on 3 tracks (Haddad, none, despite being recognized as the guy who recommended Simon to record with the Indian guys for what would became ´Dazzling Blue´).

One could note however that Shehan is thanked by Simon in the liner notes for ´his countless hours of playing´.

So, I thought Haddad for America and Shehan for Europe...but the master decided otherwise. Sure Shehan has other things to do (Hadouk), etc.

what "the master" Isn´t Paul entitled to choose his band. How do you know he did not offer the job to Shehan and he was busy? Does Paul have to hire Steve Gadd every time he wants to play 50 ways? I mean, why is this so offensive to you? This is the same story, if you hear early versions of the music on Graceland, they don´t sound anything like the songs from Graceland. Lots of people contribute something to Paul´s music, and he credits them, but its his music.

and more directly, if you know anything about playing in a band, what sense would it make to spend months with haddad, learning the music, rehearsing the moves of the show, only to switch to shehan midstream with zero opportunity for detailed rehearsal?

Please take a deep breath !!! This is not about another Simon & Garfunkel tour ;-)

I had thought about the rehearsals issues...although I am pretty sure these are not unsolvable.

I just thought that Shehan could have been great on the European tour. He did the Dylan tour in 1999, YTO tour, Simon 2008 Europe Tour, and has been a great component of SBOSW.

That´s all...

mog, although you call yourself mog here, that is not exactly "revealing your identity" what ever that means. I´m not like a superhero hiding behind a mask, my name it Tom (real name) I don´t think that takes too much courage.

Now (taking a deep breath) I like Shehan on tour, and I will be brave enough to say that with a relatively static performer such as Paul is (I like him too!) it would be good if some of his musicians added a bit more personality to the show. I wrote that before about Vincent, as great as he is, he tends to look at his strings. Mark and Tony bounce around a little.

I agree it doesn´t make sense to switch percussionists. This band is *very* tight right now and a change like that could throw everything off. I do enjoy Shehan´s antics on stage; he´s very dynamic. But Haddad is *really* good and - in my opinion - a better percussionist overall than Shehan. That doesn´t take anything away from Shehan.

By the way, I didn´t realize that Charlie Drayton had played bass in Keith Richard´s X-Pensive Winos band.

I think Paul believe Haddad is better than Steve. As he explain when present the band in concerts "Jammie Haddad is the guru percussionist".

Shehan did NOT do the 2008 Euro tour. He sat in once, at the gig in Paris, he was not a member of the touring band.

Interesting ! I had always thought that Paul had made some deep cuts on that tour like ´Cool, Cool River´ to keep Shehan busy, but it was all for Haddad then.

Yes, Shehan sat in for the Paris show, and took those bows. He also sat in in Taormina. He was NOT in the touring band, Charley Drayton and Haddad were the only drummers. This is pretty simple information to find.
