Hi! Bodo wrote that the last Paul Simon DVD was in 2006. What kind of DVD is it? I only know YTO-Tour DVD from 2000 and Paul Simon and friends from 2009

Hi Bjoern. I am sure Bodo meant the excellent recording of the BBC show made in London in 2006. There is no official DVD from 2006, and the last genuine DVD form a Paul Simon solo show is indeed the YTO in Paris, 2000.

The excellent BBC Live at Lukes DVD is able to be downloaded at the DIME web download group. It is on my list of Paul Simon stuff that I am seeding there.

I´ve seen some performances from this show allready and I´m sorry to say that I think his voice was horrible. The same Problem as in 2000 in Paris.
Thats the reason why i hoped he would make a new Live DVD from this tour. I allready hoped it in 2008 were he was excellent (like the Tour now)

Everyone has their own taste and opinion but what problem did Paul have with his voice in 2006 and 2000? I Love both shows, the quality of the Paris 2000 DVD is marvellous. The only thing that was a pity from 2006 is that the audience had to stay seated.

I agree. Saw both tours, no problem. He was in great form. I think the thing about this tour is that age hasn´t diminished his voice much. I think, in the long run, Paul benefited from having the lesser range. Less to lose.

What´s particularly interesting about this tour is that it is mainly his solo work from his big hits in the 70s, his grAceland work (probably because of the 25th anniversary) and to his latest albumand yet I have never seen such enthusiastic responses from the audience including as ans points out many young people.

Maybe be he will replace Leonard Cohen as the new oldie:))

This tour i.2011 is Not So much about his 70s songs as i would´ve thought First. In fact, the Most songs are from Graceland - 5, then the new album with 4 Songs now.... So it is more about graceland

Yes definitely a Graceland emphasis - what I was trying to say without saying it - these were the first concerts I´ve been to that everyone was happy with just the solo work.

Hope you are enjoying the warmer weather:)

Glastonbury highlights on BBC 2 now if anyone is interested

Bjoern, It was my question to you, what do you think happened to Paul´s voice on the tours in 2000 and 2006. I think his voice was very good on these tours, FE listen to how he sings "I Am A Rock" on the Paris DVD.

Maybe I´m getting really picky here. I´m unsure about the point being made about the 2000 and 2006 concerts vs now.

Personally I think his voice now is not as good as 2000 and 2002. Those concerts I recall thinking his vocals were exceptionally good. I can´t comment on 2006 because I didn´t experience those shows. However the bootleg I have of the radio broadcast of his final USA concert I think is really good - and the BBC 2006 HD TV Broadcast also suggests his voice was great.

The thing that really strikes me are his vocals on the last 2 albums - Surprise and SBSW. They sound so pure and youthful, not the voice of a 60-70 year Old.

My criticism of the current tour is that it is too reliant on the Graceland material and not enough from ROTS or YTO Or Surprise.

The current concerts both in USA and UK/Europe have been very well reviewed, however I don´t beleive these shows are better than the 2000 - 2002 period. I think it is just that he is being better appreciated for just for still performing, and the quality of the shows which are more than just pure nostalga due to the quality and innovation of the musicians supporting Paul (which really is the secret
of his live performances throughout his solo career)
