 | Does anyone know the actual tuning/chording for The Afterlife?
Driving me crazy!

 | The chord progression for the whole song is.
C# F# G#m F#
C# G#m F# C#
The reason of it sounds strange:
-It´s played on a tuned down 12-string acoustic guitar. So Paul plays it as if it was in E (E A Hm A E Hm A E)
-The bass is mainly just one pedal note and its octave, C#.
Very clever, in my opinion. |

 | I think Paul said he was using a tremolo to get the Bo Diddley sound. I don´t what a tremolo means, but anyway... |

 | Are you saying his guitar is tuned down in standard tuning or an open tuning? Watching the video I can see his chord shapes as you describe (E A D B? ) roughly. Thanks for your input! |

 | I got E A D Bm, but could be wrong. |

 | Yes,that´s correct Mike, although I´m not convinced that Paul doesn´t alternate the Bm with a D in the first part of every circular pattern?? Of course it fits harmonically, but whether it´s accurate,I don´t know. Paul must have his strings tuned down so that the low E string becomes a C#. All the strings tuned down 3 semi-tones. |

 | OK, I´ve got the guitar tuned down to C#,F#,B,E,G#,C# starting from the 6th. and using the chord progression seems to approximate the melody, and yes, if you watch the video he does mix the progression up a bit. Now to work on the other parts to fill it out, of course it helps to have a few others around to add to that cool sound! Thanks for everyones help! |
