 | It´s a beautiful set. I understand that they only made 1000 copies and the outer box is handcrafted. I think it is definitely worth getting.
It includes a lithograph of the album cover and a pretty thick copy of a yellow lined notepad of Paul´s handwritten lyrics. There´s also a vinyl copy of the album, as well as the deluxe CD/DVD package in the set.
A couple of days after my amazing adventure with Paul on stage at the Constitution Hall, I received a telephone call from Senator Dodd´s office here in DC. They said that Senator Dodd was having lunch with Paul that day and would I be available to stop by to say hello to them before their lunch.
Of course, I was thrilled to do so. I brought my copy of this deluxe box set with me. Paul said, "I´ve never seen this before." He slowly went through the entire box to see what it included. When he got to the lyric sheet, he paged through it and asked, "what is this?" I said it appears to be your handwritten lyrics to the songs - see, here´s Love in Hard Times. He continued to browse through the set, seeming very interested.
When he got to the vinyl, he said, "people are getting interested in these again." We then talked about how it´s much easier to appreciate the artwork on a vinyl copy - like Sgt. Pepper´s gatefold sleeve, etc. as compared to a small CD package. I told them that I think this set is so nice that I put it on display in my office.
This meeting was supposed to be around a quick five minute chat and a photo, but the three of us ended up talking about music, songwriting, the Gumboots performance, etc, for nearly 30 minutes! Really amazing. When we were having our photo taken, Senator Dodd said "Simon and Fournier!" Paul responded, "that has a nice ring to it!"
t was apparent to me that Paul was very happy with how the Gumboots performance turned out. He mentioned that the band thought I had great timing. Paul also complimented me on being so musical. Paul signed my yellow lyric sheet, writing a nice note thanking me for joining up on Gumboots, and handed the box back to me with a smile.
Both Senator Dodd and Paul Simon were so very kind to give me this wonderful and pleasant opportunity. I can say from this experience that they are both very gracious, friendly, and kind people. |

 | What a fantastic meeting,Paul. I enjoyed reading all about it, so good that they voiced their appreciation of your wonderful performance.
Glad you showed him your Limited Edition de Luxe set. He seemed really interested and what a thrill to get the lyrics signed. Maybe he will get one for himself now! I agree it is well worth buying. I ordered mine when they agreed to allow us in Aust and NZ to purchase from the US store . Originally we had to purchase from the UK which was so very much more expensive. It is a beautiful set and I am so glad I bought it.
would Love to see your photo with Paul and the Senator. Such gracious people.

 | Did it seem odd to you that Paul was not aware of the contents of the set? Somehow I think he would know everything his record company was doing! |

 | He´s been pretty busy with getting the album out and then touring so extensively, so maybe he just didn´t have time to see this deluxe set before I showed him my copy. I seem to recall there was a delay in producing the sets, each having a handmade cover, so he was probably already on tour by the time the sets were finished. It´s all good - he seemed happy with it. |

 | Wonderful story Paul. As fans,we can all live vicariously through your experiences:-) Did Senator Dodd seem to know much about songwriting or Paul´s music? I know they´re friends of course, but I´m just interested whether Dodd is actually a fan of Paul´s music as well. |

 | Yes, he is surely a fan. He was at the Constitution Hall concert with his wife.
Before Paul arrived at his office, Senator Dodd chatted for quite a bit about Paul and his music, commenting on Paul´s early Tom and Jerry days, and also how even his children sing along with Paul´s music in the car.
Also, they had gone to see an earlier show on the tour in Los Angeles. I saw Senator Dodd again going into the soundcheck of the 9:30 club DC show, where he graciously introduced me to his wife who said she liked my dancing on stage with Paul! lol. They were really nice. |

 | ´Gumboots´can be a difficult song to sing even in the shower, with all those syllables, and not much time to catch a breath, but to sing it spur of the moment, unexpected,in front of hundreds of people, and in the presence of the songs author, well hats off to you Paul. I remember PS saying how if didn´t realize what a monumental event the Central Park concert in 81 was, until he returned good that evening and saw the reports of the concert on the late news. Did you have a similar experience Paul after that night,or the first time you watched yourself on YouTube? An amazing event! |

 | Sorry about that. I´m posting from my phone, and I keep forgetting to check what word choices it has made for me. That was meant to be ´he´,not ´if´ and ´home´,not ´good´. Lol. |

 | When Dodd ran for President there were clips of Paul joining him on a Campaign-I think in Iowa. There was a video of him entertaining the Dodd girls on the bus! |

 | Ian, Thanks for your kind message. I didn´t take the time up there to think about being nervous (although I did notice that leg was shaking a little). I was amazed at how good the sound was singing in Paul´s microphone and listening from his monitors, so I tried to do as good of a job singing as I could, for Paul and for the rest of the people there. I´m so happy that I didn´t freeze with the rest of the lyrics. I guess I´ve heard Gumboots so many times it was just natural for me. It´s good that it went so smoothly, especially after all of the attention! I´m thrilled that the videos are on YouTube so that others can see what happened and enjoy it. It´s so much better than trying to describe it in words! Thanks again. |
