Hi Brandy!
Yes thats true, you have started an interesting discussion here IMO and I like it. It brings more live and also shows that we all have different taste´s.

You have written down what I also think, in much better words. I didn´t ever thought of the first point, but I would agree on that. His songs are total different today, much more uptempo and often without harmony. He has delevoped his own singin style, where more words are spoken than sung. There are only a few new songs which would really fit to the S&G aera, ´Love´ is maybe one, but on most of the songs there isn´t place for Artie´s harmony. (And remember what he said about My Little Town - he said that now he will write a song for Artie)
On a new S&G album he would have to write all the songs for Artie or it would sound like a strange mix. And I´m also not sure if he still can that - what was the last really ballad Paul Simon wrote... Hearts And Bones maybe?

And what you say in point 3, well that can be seen at all the live shows. The are Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, not S&G.
Art is doing his songs, like Kathys Song and Paul is arranging his songs, like I´am a rock. It was a concert of 2 musicians, and I personaly didn´t like the mixture.

also things can come over a little too agressively when they are written instead of spoken. Take everything I say with a pinch of salt Willow.

(I am a fan of AG solo and S/G but still prefer PS solo......I wouldn´t have missed the NY concert for anything )

Please Nicole, don´t leave this forum because of this discussion. We all appreciate you, it´s like Marieno says, let not hate each other. We respect you and the other S&G fans too.

I´m starting to lose the overview of this lively discussion...Maybe we can try and write to whom we reply at the beginning of every message? Like @Bodo for example? Just a suggestion...

Hi Miriam - Just look at the TREE view on the mainpage of the forum.

In TREE view you see exactly who writes to which person. (You can click on TREE or click into the small button, it´s on the upper right side)

It still gets a little confusing even on the tree.

Yes, I think because some people click on the wrong "Reply" button in the BOARD view...then it doesn´t make sense in the tree, but makes sense in time order...

sorry... you misunderstood me.
I guess I was in some uncomfortable mood. It was actually not meant that way. It was meant for schanulleke and people like him/her. Of course this is a discussion board to discuss and as Bodo says feel free to present your opinion. But I feel that it sometimes gets against posters.
I got just a little angry about this...sorry.

and sorry to Mandy too, I hope you don´t get into trouble with what I posted

Thanks for seeing my side of things, and I have one more valid point . . .

S & G is a FOLK/ROCK duo, right? Paul writes very few folk songs anymore. So . . . he´d be forced to stick with the folk formula and it might be a bit hard for him after so many years of writing in different musical styles.

And by the same arguement, we can´t expect S & G to sing exotic world music such as the stuff Paul writes today, now can we? It would be unnatural and disappoint the fans, including me, who think of S & G as sensational folk/rock and nothing else.

For all you offended AG fans, I must say that I don´t HATE Artie either, I just really, really don´t like his MUSIC at all. I find his voice good, but personally it annoys me because it sounds kinda girly and wimpy to me, but then again, that´s what endears it to so many fans and it´s very sweet, just not my style, that´s all. He has a good voice and that makes him deserve to be recognized as a great vocalist in his own right, not just for S & G.

AG fans treasure their Artie, just as PS fans treasure our Paul. I think it is important for these two men to keep going with their solo careers, for all the reasons I listed. Don´t mistaken me, Artie is a good singer, I just personally don´t like his voice. I have nothing against him. When PS fans speak out against the reunion, it is not us slamming Artie, it´s us just seeing a different side of the issue.

I´m glad people understand my opinion, and this board is an awesome place where I Love to hang out. I would just like to finish this post by saying I wouldn´t mind a duet like "My Little Town" at all, I´m sure it would be lovely, but a renuion album goes too far.

And let´s try not to get touchy when a person disagrees with us on this message board . . . when someone speaks against your opinion, they are not personally insulting you, rather, they are taking an interest in your views and the conversation going on, so it´s a good thing, right?

I am enjoying this discussion very much. Don´t leave it if it isn´t working in your favour, join in all the more:)

Willow, i have posted on this board since its creation and we have always discussed very friendly even if opinions were different (it is the same for the chat), it makes the richness of the discussions and of this board...But sometimes, some people make provocation...I think Schanulleke (who is not a regular poster but posts on the AG board...)succeeded very well...it is not his/her opinion which is to blame (once again, all opinions are welcome) but the way to express it...He/she exactly knew what he/she did...Bravo Schanulleke!!!

But does not liking Michael Jackson give you the right to insult him or his fans? In my opinion it doesn´t. And I think insulting Art Garfunkel and his fans here on this board is even worse because you KNOW a lot of Artie´s fans visit this website.

I was not in any way trying to be provocative. I am sincerely sorry if I made that impression. It´s just that in my opinion the world would be a much better place if people showed some more respect toward each other (even if they don´t like each other). It´s not the discussion that bothered me, it was the way some things were being expressed.
