 | Read exactly and you will understand what I describe.(I describe their acting on stage, not their songs here) Standing around and clapping into their hand´s is what they did, while they played a rocky song, and I only compared them to a Paul Simon solo or Paul Mc Cartney solo show, which had much more pep on stage. | | | Bodo Feb-08-2004, 11:56 GMT

 | ´Were´
not ´are´
What I don´t like is that you seem to limit 45 years of a career onto 6 years as S&G. You seem to forget that Simon had 2 Grammy album´s of the year AFTER S&G(while they had only 1, the one he nearly produced alone) You seem to forget that Simon was introduced into the Rock n´Roll hall of fame as a solo artist, as also a part of S&G. That he alone is in the Songwriter Hall of fame, got the Kennedy Center honours, Music cares person of the year etc.etc.
That he won 12 Grammys alone, while S&G got 4.
And you still want to say that he is just a part of S&G, or that this maybe comes because of the partnership with Art Garfunkel? Really, I doubt that.

 | Exactly my opinion Julie, an interesting board has different opinions, and so we can have a lot of discussions.
I always try not to be rude about Art Garfunkel, I express my opinion about the things - but a lot of people seem to missunderstood that and think that we/I have any input on Paul and don´t ´let him do what he want´s´.
I can like it or not, and I can write it down here - but Paul is always doing what he want´s to do. And I think a lot of you S&G fan´s will cry loud if suddenly Art decides tomorrow: "No, I don´t think we should make another S&G album, I will make another album with Michael Jackson" (or do you really like everything the man does, without having your own opinion?)
I for myself liked what Paul did all the past years, but at the time I´m not happy with his commercial music career. Always pretending that they only do this for their fans, but taking a incredible amount of money in the same time, don´t you thinkt that´s all a little bit (just a little) cynical. That there is some part of not really the truth? Maybe just 10% or less, but their acting is so untrue for me in parts.
Telling us that they are friends since 50 years and that they only ´argued´ a little bit. (It was always a well known joke that this was the duo who hat´s each other most in the whole business)
And now they say they are Old and wise and have forgotten all these things. Well, did Paul really went old, now after he sung ´We´re not old´ on YTO.?
Old and wise like Leonard Cohen who can still explore new way´s of music at the age of > 72 years. Or wise like Sting who is not a part of The Police anymore, because he strictly went his way (well I have to mention him because Chris Botti left Paul´s band and is now in Sting´s band - and I think because he simply is more inspiring for him now)?
I hope Paul is going his way, and is not making a circle and ending himself. But I have a good feeling for the first choice.
And this also is the same thing for Garfunkel - just now he got´s these wonderful reviews for his solo songwriting, for a new part of his career. Reviewers say that he is becoming more than a singer, and now he should end that, and also go back again? I wouldn´t appreciate that as a true AG fan. | | | Bodo Feb-08-2004, 12:33 GMT

 | Schanulleke, who is not nice to you at the moment? I don´t see any bad comments against you here, but you started to say that you dislike this board in one of your first posts...
Are we not nice to you because we don´t say "I Love Paul Simon and Garfunkel and I think they should do what they want to do" ?
Should we all say that in chorus? | | | Schanulleke Feb-08-2004, 13:28 GMT

 | I never said that anybody wasn´t nice to ME. Some people on this board seem unable to be nice to Art Garfunkel or Simon&Garfunkel fans. That´s all. | | | skywriter Feb-08-2004, 14:12 GMT

 | Well thats absolut logical Schanulleke.
Because this site and forum is about Paul Simon. A lot of people here like only Paul Simon much more than S&G, and don´t like Art.
A lot like S&G and Art and don´t like Paul, and others like them all. That´s simply because they make different styles of music.
I would never like Michael Jackson, and so would make bad comments about him - like a lot of people do | | | Willow Feb-08-2004, 15:34 GMT

 | Hello all,
Okay, I´ll apologise, I was rather upset when I stumbled upon this thread and I was very upset when I read Julie´s post. I over reacted and I´m sorry. But are we not the board? Those who post on it are the board in a sense, so you could see why I wasn´t too happy when I saw your post Julie. Though I am sorry for what I said.
And the people there are smart people, they are teachers, Mensa members etc.
I come back here to just get a feel for my fellow Paul fans. What they think about whatever is going on in the world of Paul, that sort of thing.
To me to always be defending something is never to be at ease. That is not something I prefer.
I do like this board I just got ticked off by it a bit yesterday. I guess I have a hard time understanding why a true Paul fan would dislike such a large and life defining part in his life. But we all have varied tastes and that´s what makes the world go round in the end.
And Bodo, and I am not choosing not to understand you, and I am merely pointing out that there are a great deal of young S&G fans. Yes, even more are Old, I´ll admit.
And I understand why you all don´t like Art a whole lot. I used to make fun of him as well. A lot. Merely because I thought that he was a bit pathetic and I liked Paul a lot more.

 | Did I say you all should be like the AG board? No, I didn´t. I merely stated whom I prefered and why.
Of course some people aren´t going to like this board and some aren´t going to like the AG board. That doesn´t mean either of those opinions are wrong (nor am I impling that you think that they are wrong or that you said that).
Some people Love the niceness of that board because they are accepted right away. Some people love this board because they are the sort who love to debate things related to Paul. Some can do and love both.
Well, I´m going to try to do both now. | | | Brandy Feb-08-2004, 16:49 GMT

 | Whoa, I leave for a few days, come back, and I find that World War 3 has erupted on this message board! People calm down!
First of all, enough comments of, "A TRUE fan would let Paul do what he wants." Fans are humans, too. WE ARE ENTITLED TO OUR OPINION, AND CAN DISAGREE WITH PAUL´S ACTIONS AT ANY TIME. It´s a free country, we aren´t his slaves!
Here are my reasons against a S & G reunion album.
1) Paul CAN NOT write S & G songs anymore. He was in his 20s when he did so, so the songs were innocent, poetic, a little pretentious, and generally very sweet. Paul doesn´t write that way anymore, he´d be writing mature songs that don´t fit the S & G "forever young, forever innocent" formula that attracts so many listeners. This point I´m making is true. Paul will never be able to write S & G songs again. Rather, they will Paul Simon songs sunk in harmony. They won´t have the same magic at all.
2) S & G is a world-renowned music legend. Making an album after decades of living under the legacy of "Bridge" could ruin the legend for many fans (including me). The reunion tour was alright, but I think Art is going to far with his little suggestion. Leave what´s in the past, in the past.
3) S & G IS dead. It is the MUSIC of S & G that lives on. S & G, as a duo, is dead. They are not S & G, they are Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, successful aritists with good careers and seperate solo accomplishments to be proud of. "Being" S & G again is downright impossible. They´re just putting on an act.
Those are my reasons, argree or diagree, I don´t mind opposition.
And Willow, the AG board is very nice indeed, but I prefer conversation that has a little more spice to it. I respect everyone´s opinion, and being too diplomatic and trying to make everyone happy makes me very annoyed with the AG board. Let people speak out.
So, what do you guys think of my reasons? | | | Willow Feb-08-2004, 17:43 GMT

 | Julie, you make a very good strong case. I would have to agree with you now that you write them all out in so many words.
I think your reasons are interesting and very well put together. I´m wouldn´t want a S&G album either, I would rather a PS solo album and a AG solo album than a S&G one. Prehaps to keep both sides happy they could do a "My Little Town" sort of thing. | | | Bodo Feb-08-2004, 18:00 GMT

 | I can live with sucha duet very good :-) It would help both parts, Art and Paul - and both would have their own new album also.
I think at this time in 1975 when they recorded this song together it was one of the best choices they could make. | | | Marieno Feb-08-2004, 18:45 GMT

 | Thanks Brandy, you spoke very clearly...excatly my opinion...
But, i think that some of the AG´s fans are a little bit paranoiac (sorry to say that): they believe that the Paul´s fans HATE this poor Arthur...many of us don´t like his music and don´t want a new S&G album, that´s all...and i can understand that some AG´s fans or other people don´t like Paul´s music, it´s a question of taste...Sometimes we make jokes about AG, but we make some about Paul too...I think that the regulars posters on this VERY GOOD board are not "blind" fans: we are able to criticize PS and it´s very good thing...
About AG, i don´t know the man personnally, so, once again, specially for you Schanulleke, I DON´T HATE AG!!!!!! understood now... | | | Marieno Feb-08-2004, 18:53 GMT

 | Skywriter, please don´t say bullshits, you actually KNOW that all opinions are welcome on this board; I hope we are able to discuss without hating each other... it´s easy to criticize...Bodo makes a very good job, so please, respect that... | | | |
