 | José Maria Escudero has written on AMPS some indication about what alternate tunes are :
"Alternate Tunes is a kind of guitar playing technique very used by
european folk singers in the early 60s and derivated from blues and
jazz. Paul Simon learnt it where he stayed at UK at that time.
So I think the supposed title of the forthcoming album "Alternate
Tunings" has to do with this one and probably it has not to do about
alternative takes of songs or rare and unreleased stuff as many
friends here have suppossed. In this way maybe we would guess the
music style of Paul´s new album."
Maybe an indication of what could be this so enigmatic new album !

 | A few weeks ago I put a post on AMPS asking whether anyone knew if Paul had ever recorded anything in a different guitar tuning. No one answered....maybe this new album is my reply !! |

 | hmm.. can look it up, but I semms to recall that for that song he used an open "D" tuning. Tune your guitar this way:
E string down to D
B string down to A
G string down to F#
D string stays the same
A string stays the same
E string down to D
I might me wrong here but.. try it. |

 | In his 1991 Central Park show, Paul used a seconed guitar for Hearts And Bones.
And on the 1981 Central Park show he also used a second guitar for "TLGJA"
What for a tuning was that ? |

 | is played in D tuning by Paul. (or in another tuning)
But maybe all the tabs are just transponized (is that the right word?)
I know that on Feelin Groovy normaly the E side is tuned down to D (but only on the record, never live) |
