 | Paul Simon:
"For a lot of people who come out and say nasty things about my friend Lorne, I think hey, he´s not perfect, neither am I! For the most part, I don´t think Lorne ever screwed over anybody. Maybe they didn´t like something about Lorne´s personality, or maybe they didn´t like his judgement or something like that. But he never hurt anybody´s career. People from Saturday Night Live went on to HUGE careers, and Lorne didn´t have any piece of them. he didn´t own them or take them or control them and I resent anybody who says that he did!
He´s a decent guy and he´s a very powerful guy, and it´s unusual to find somebody who´s really, really powerful and that decent. He dosen´t push people and throw his weight around. And he never did. He wasnasty when he was young, even to me, but he mellowed. I think that´s why he´s a helluva boss to work for, really. You´re lucky if Lorne´s in your life. For the most part, for most people, their life is improved. I know that´s the case for me. He´s truely my dearest friend."
Now for all those Artie fans out there who think that what Paul just said was a crime, well, what can I say? Lorne and Paul are really tight.
More quotes to come! |

 | Hello Peggy
How do you know that they have been a perfect couple? :-)
They broke up because booth of them were star´s, and have a big ego. You see, after Pauls marriage with Mrs. Brickell her music career was nearly over - Paul doesn´t really want another big star on his side (at least 20 years ago he thought so, I think today he changed his mind a little bit) But I´m very sure that he is a family man who prefers a housewife at home with a lot of children. |

 | I don´t know about that Bodo...Edie may not have a huge career, but it´s there. And she tours too. Edie was the one who chose not to work because she didn´t want her children growing up the way she did, no mum at home.
And Paul hardly stoppped her from having her own career. He helped her and stud by her all the way. And is very proud of what she does.
As for Carrie...She never enjoyed acting and was more than happy to give it up. There´s nothing anywhere that says Paul was the one who wanted her to give it up.

 | Hmmm, it was Edie´s own choice to leave the music business and have children with Paul. There are still a lot of women who prefer to stay at home when the kids are little. And Edie is so fortunate she can allow it. A lot of mothers like to stay home for their kids but can´t afford it.
There are also a lot of mothers who like to combine her career with kids, this is the choice women can make these days, well, not all of them have this luck.
There were several reasons for the break up with Carrie Fisher, yes they both had a big ego but Carrie also had a lot of problems using drugs which Paul didn´t like.
And he is indeed a family man, he is very fond of his kids, he didn´t tour much when Harper was little because he wanted to spend enough time with his son.

 | And like Mickey said, Edie has a music career, she has made a new album recently, Volcano and is working on a new solo album, a new album with the New Bohemians and working with Harper.

 | I have heard interviews with Edie where she described, that she wanted to quit music for the kids. Paul convinced her to take guitar lessons because she will enjoy her music much more, when she learns more about it. I don´t have the impression that he forced her out of the business.
But she also said, that he appreciated her decision to stay with the kids very much, but it was clearly her decision to do so, because of her own childhood.
By the way, my kids are 5 and 3 and I understand the situation quite a bit. Your really can´t have both as long as they are small, although they try to tell you, that you can. |

 | In a interview about her divorce with Paul, I remember Carrie saying that Paul has always wanted to have at home an "intellectual Geisha" and it was apparently not Carrie´s style ! :-)
Now, concerning Edie, I think it was her choice to stop her carreer for her children and anyway, I think women, with 3 children at home, can´t really spend her days and nights in a studio or, even harder, on one year long tour.
It´s true that it´s the top when women have choice : stay at home to take care of the children or have a career but in my opinion, many problems in couples and many causes of divorce nowadays come from the fact that many women want to have it all, and as Mimi said above, we are not Wonderwoman and I don´t really think it´s possible to have both : a happy family and a career. Now, I hope I won´t shock the feminists ! ;-) (btw, Paul´ song "You Don´t Know Where Your Interest Lies" was against the feminists, right ? So, Carrie was definitely right ! lol !)

 | Well, Bodo started a dangerous discussion....;-)
I agree that it´s very hard to have kids and a career, having kids means sacrifices, for the husband and the wife....
I also stayed at home when my kids were small and never regretted it. But I know there are women who can´t stay at home, they are even better mothers if they combine their work with kids. So there are many different situations. I think when you get married you should talk with each other before you have kids what you want. It can preserve you from problems.

 | Sure, but my point was that Carrie Fisher would not have made this decission (to become a housewife and let Paul in the first row)

 | I knew that Ans, but I have the good feeling that her career could have been much bigger.
Well, I did not want to say that Paul forced her to do anything - I wanted to say that they combine each other better - Edie made the decission to become a houswife with a smaller career, and let Paul be the star.(That was at least one point why Carrie and Paul breake up) |
