 | okay, now this is one of my favorite albums that paul has done. it was just a few days ago that i finally took this album out of my CD player after days and days of listening to it.
this album seems to be a bit more focused than the one before it. TGRS shows such a great growth and out of this growth came some truly wonderful songs. Kodachrome, Tenderness, Something So Right [some best three songs to have ever started an album], American Tune [although i prefer that acoustic live version], Learn How To Fall [i almost stood up and cheered in the theater when this came on at the end of ´Something´s Gotta Give´] and, of course, Loves Me Like A Rock. i Love everyone of these songs.
this is, in my opinion, a really great album and one of pauls finest.
track listing:
Kodachrome
Tenderness
Take Me To The Mardi Gras
Something so Right
One Man´s Ceilling is another Man´s Floor
American Tune
Was A Sunny Day
Learn how to fall
St. Judy´s Comet
Loves me like a Rock |

 | I´m going to have a listen to this album as I´ve not listened to it for a while. So it will be nice to get it out again and listen to it with fresh ears again.

 | Definately as good an album as its predecessor was.
I´m curious if anyone has spotted this before. Both Paul Simon and Billy Joel have worked with Phil Ramone, and both, of course, are New Yorkers.
In the song Tenderness, Paul sings "Honesty
It´s such a waste of energy
No you don´t have to lie to me
Just give me some tenderness
Beneath your honesty"; a few years later, Billy Joel sang "If you search for tenderness, it isn´t hard to find ... honesty is hardly ever heard and mostly what I need from you".
I always wondered whether Billy´s song was influenced by Paul´s, as the sentiments seem to be diametrically opposed. (Or maybe I´ve had too much time on my hands?)

 | I think TGRS is a great collection of songs every one of them unique lyrically and musically. I loved the lyric of American Tune the first time I heard it and although the Quincy Jones score got alot of good press,I think accoustically on its own is best. Interestingly over the years since its release Ive found a different song each time to be a favourite of mine. Currently Im into Tenderness and the lovelly vocals of the Dixie Hummingbirds.
The only thing I think of with TGRS is that it doesnt really have a theme like pauls other albums...its more like a collection of great singles.

 | My favourite of the 70´s albums and album of the moment. apart from the familiar ones appearing on compilations Ilove also OMCisanAMF (heard first time on YTO paris DVD) esp the piano intro. the calypso effect IT Was A Sunny Day is great little number.
BTW I hope these discussions are going to continue I´m looking forward to read opions on the 80´s albums.
keep up the good work Jeffersonetc. |

 | Yes, I Love it too : very jazzy with a great atmosphere and very good songs like Something So Right or One Man´s Ceiling (and when he plays it in concert, it´s simply great !) |
