Dec-31-2008, 04:30: Mystery Train Tab - Hello there
Does anyone have a tab of mystery train the way Paul Simon played it during the last tour ?
Thanks in Advance
Dec-30-2008, 17:50: S&G Hearts and Bones - Hi, I have the bootlege Hearts And Bones album that was supposed to be for Simon and Garfunkel. I was wondering if there is any live S&G performances of "Train In The Distance" "Hearts and Bones" or "Allergies". If someone can help me, I will be in your debt. Thank you guys so much.
Dec-28-2008, 13:02: The curse of Paul Simon - The Curse of Paul Simon. Not a good year to have once hung around with the legendary songster. Among this year´s obits: Ira Tucker of the Dixie Hummingbirds, who backed Rhymin´ Simon on 1973´s "Loves Me Like A Rock;" Miriam Makeba, who performed at the historic "Graceland" concert in ´87; and Davy Graham, whose classic guitar solo, "Angi," was oft performed by Simon in the early days.

Well, it has some truth. Remeber what I wrote some days ago? (...you are Old when everyone around you dies) So even other people realized that coincidence now.
Dec-27-2008, 16:11: Video: Fast Car Wyclef Jean fe... - The videoclip from 2007 - Fast Car, featuring Paul Simon. He did not appear in the video, and Wyclef is mimming Paul Simons guitar playing.
Why do I show you that now? :) I have made a new function in the forum. You can post a YOUTUBE video and start a discussion about it. It is point 3) on the forum page.
Admins are allowed to delete video clips too. If you go to the video clips page, watch the video, and see that it has been erased for example - then simply click on DELETE THIS VIDEO.
Happy new year.

Dec-26-2008, 19:19: The Heidi Berg story - Does anyone know if this story is true? Or any background info?
It´S again from this page:
http://stereogum.com/archives/video/david-byrne-do es-paul-simon-the-worlds-biggest-pri_009106.html
---
Actually, it´s a way worse story than even Steve Berlin realizes. If you look at the liner notes, the first person Paul Crime On mentions is Heidi Berg. Paul was a mentor and unofficial producer at the suggestion of Lorne Michaels with a young singer-songwriter named Heidi Berg. She was band leader and guitarist for Lornes ill-fated "The New Show". She discovered a tape of South African Accordion music called Gumboots Accordion Jive Hits. She had been listening to it for months and in one of her weekly sessions with the Apalling one, she said she wanted her album to have some of the same accordion feel as this weird tape. She was Norwegian and played accordion too. Small told her to let him borrow the tape and he´d give her his opinion. She lent him the tape and he disappeared. Did not return her calls...was incommunicado. Then after a few weeks she gets an invite from Simeon´s office to come hear him do a set of his hits in a one man show in Saratoga. She goes to the show and goes backstage afterwards. He´s all sweetness and light. She casually asks him about the tape. He says that he bought all the rghts to the tape and he´s going to Africa to record with the band. She´s floored. She expresses her outrage and hurt. He says, "well, you were free to go to africa too." She says "I did´nt think you were my competitor". He says "You try to compete with me little girl, and I´ll cut you down where you stand". He recorded his record and actually used THE EXACT TRACKS FROM THE GUMBOOTS TAPE for several songs...You Can Call Me Al was lifted straight from the original Gumboots tape. Of course it says words and music by Paul Simon. As far as we know, he´s never given Heidi Berg a dime. He sent her a gold record, and then a platinum record and credited her as "a friend who gave me a tape".....if there is a hell, he´ll rot in it for eternity. Hey Paul, what goes around comes around. The whole world is watching....
----
Well, the story could have some true moments (there was a concert in Saratoga...) But I do not believe Paul said these words.
And If You can call me Al was recorded exact as from this tape, and became a worldwide hit later - then I am sure someone would have complained.
So what is it about this story?
Dec-25-2008, 03:16: Paul Simon and Los Lobos - I had heard the story, some time ago, about Los Lobos´ collaboration with Mr Simon on the "Graceland" album. I was shocked, frankly to hear of the alleged theft of Los Lobos´ music.
While I am more than willing to accept that there are at least two sides to this story, I think that the piece at this forum regarding their ill-fated collaboration needs to be corrected.
Firstly -- Los Lobos did not "sue" Paul Simon. They simply report that he told them something along the lines of "sue me" when they were able to confront him over the lack of songwriting credit.
Second -- Los Lobos were hardly "unknown" at the time "Graceland" was being recorded. They in fact were a well known international touring act with several hit records.
BTW -- it appears that Los Lobos was eventually awarded the song credit they sought and deserve.

Dec-21-2008, 11:14: 1984 Solo Tour Question. - Hello Everyone,as someone who has never heard any of the existing ´boots´ from Paul´s 12 City Solo Tour, can anyone tell me if Paul only played acoustic guitar,or did he use electric as well at there shows. Secondly,I saw mentioned that at one of the shows,he played a tape of a Midas Muffler commercial,or something. What was that about exactly? Thanking you in advance.
Dec-20-2008, 16:36: Berklee College - Paul has been appointed to the board of trustees at Berklee (in Mass.). See: http://www.berklee.edu/news/ Previously he received an honorary doctorate. Maybe he will eventually teach there??
Dec-17-2008, 18:30: Alive... - Hi guys! Missing you all!

Dec-14-2008, 11:30: ´You´re the One´ article - Hi all,I just found and read this article, that most have probably read before. It´s from the Mixonline site,so you´d be correct if you assumed it to be an article written from a technical angle. It describes the recording process, instruments, musicians and equipment used. Here´s the link http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_paul_simon/
Dec-13-2008, 06:03: Missing Forum Threads? - Hi Bodo, just letting you know that something has good awry with the forum for the last 6-7 hours? I can´t see any recent threads, nor does a search reveal them.

Dec-10-2008, 18:28: Anyone here? - The site moved now...to its own server.
Dec-10-2008, 11:04: Think Too Much(b) - Just another Question- On ´Hearts And Bones´,sound effects play a fairly minor, yet memorable part. What are your opinions as to what the ´goat/sheep´ bleats at the beginning of Think Too Much(b) are? What is their significance, and how were they made? I first heard that album in late 1983,when I was 16,and those creepy sounds have mystified me ever since. I´m assuming that they are a sampled sound generated by the Synclavier, but I have no clue what they signify. Maybe it was a comment on the large numbers of the public, who seemed to have a need in the late seventies and early eighties for some sort of analytical help. Maybe he saw these people, including himself,as sheep, following the flock to the nearest therapist/psychologist? That´s clumsy I know, but it´s all I´ve got at the moment:-|
Dec-06-2008, 10:52: Paul/Woodstock 99/Letterman - Hi,did Paul play at Woodstock 99? I should know this,I realize, but if I did,I´ve forgotten. My feeling is that he did because on the first Letterman show after the festival,Dave´s ´Top Ten´ was something like ´10 things heard at Woodstock 99´ and one of the entries was[and I don´t remember which number it was]-´No,that´s not a sleeping bag,it´s Paul Simon´??? Does anyone remember this,or know what it means?
Dec-05-2008, 14:33: Does Paul read and write music... - This is something I have wanted to know for a long time. In the mid seventies, with an already well established career as a singer/songwriter,and having written many great songs,Paul took music lessons in composition and arranging. We can hear the fruits of this immediately from that point on,as far as composition is concerned, starting with nearly every song on ´Still Crazy...´,but when it came to writing string and horn arrangements on songs like ´Some Folks Lives Roll Easy´[one of my all time favourites],is it known if he actually notated the parts,or perhaps he just hummed the parts for someone else to write down? Does anyone know?

Dec-02-2008, 13:39: Search for forum admins - Hello
I am asking for your assistance. Expecially regular (daily) and long time (1 year) visitors to this site.
I can give you the option to delete inapropiate messages and to change the forum topic of a thread (we now have 4 different options: Paul, S&G, Artie, OFT =off topic)
You do not have to do that on a regular basis or whatever, just if you are online and see something wrong and want to change it.
You can not delete anything.
a) hide message means just that it will not be displayed, it is still saved
b) change the topic (change it from S&G to Paul for example), will also not delete anyhting or make trouble.
I do not want that to make to crowded, so 3 persons for the english forum, and one for every other language would be enough.
Let me know if you want to do that. (and please don´t be angry if there are too many requests and I have to say no :-( ... )
============
At the time this site has 4 admins (but I think only Ans is still working with the hide-message option?) [Sorry, I can not check it back]
Julie also has the option, and Miriam (but she is not online very often I guess..?)
And Nathalie lost her option because she signed up with a new entrie in the fan-database.
(correct me if I am wrong)
Dec-02-2008, 06:21: He Was My Brother - Hi Folks, for someone who has been listening to,and playing the music of PS & S&G on the guitar for many years,I´m embarrassed to ask this question. Is Paul playing a 12 string on ´He Was My Brother´ from the ´Live from New York City,1967´ CD? It sounds like it to me,but I could be wrong. I have just rediscovered this CD,this little treasure, and am so impressed with Paul´s guitar accompaniment on virtually every song. Most people will elect ´Anji´ as the greatest example of his guitar talent, and while that song does have it´s more complex parts,I think you could take his playing on any of these songs and study it in detail,as a good example of a talented guitar arranger/player,working at his best. You can certainly see how he developed the snaky, circular guitar lines from ´Surprise´ when you consider how well he played at such a young age,on the ´Live from New York City,1967´ album.
Dec-01-2008, 10:38: Deleting / editing postings - Hi Bodo,
I think I hadn´t the occasion to thank for all your effort - so please accept my gratitude for what you have done with this site.
Now: is there a possibility to delete a posting or to edit it - if not days after it was posted, let´s say in a few hours, or at least before anyone answered it?
Cheers!

Nov-19-2008, 08:53: Central Park audience size que... - I just came across this article that straight out implies that the audience figures quoted for these Central Park concerts have been highly overexaggerated! They seem to be saying that the figures would be closer to 50 to 100,000 people in attendance at these shows. I doubt that very much! I watched CP´91 last night and to my eye,Paul and band were playing to a huge ´sea of humanity´ that is obviously more than 100,000 strong. Here´s the link. I hope it works- http://sweetness-light.com/archive/million-man-mat h-cost-nyc-550000#
Nov-16-2008, 23:05: "Incurable disease? " (Open bi... - The open bio on this site says the following:
"One instance of discomfort came on a BBC TV interview. Asked for a reason for reuniting and touring [after the 1982 reunion tour], Simon suggested that Art had an incurable disease."
I´ve never heard this before. Did Paul really say it? And if so, why?
Nov-15-2008, 06:10: Gershwin show video? - Hey I´m looking for a video clip of Diamonds from the Gershwin show with Paul and LBM, it used to be on Youtube but it was taken down
Nov-14-2008, 15:31: Barnes & Nobles - Someone put on the conversation from yesterday on youtube. So for all of you that can´t wait for the "offical" version on the Barnes & Noble Site (like myself) just type in "Paul Simon barnes" at youtube a you can watch it.
Nov-13-2008, 13:04: A Heavenly Body called...Simo... - I didn´t know that there was an asteroid named after Simon and Garfunkel. Apparently it´s called ´Asteroid 91287 Simon-Garfunkel´. Cool!
Nov-13-2008, 10:12: Shelter of your Arms? - what´s the deal with this song? did it ever become an offical song, or is it just a demo?
Nov-12-2008, 09:18: Art Garfunkel´s voice on ´Ca... - Hi,for years whenever I listen to the Hearts And Bones album,I´m positive that on ´Cars Are Cars´ at exactly 2:44 into the song,on the word ´world´,I can hear Art Garfunkel´s voice singing part of the background vocal. When Paul wiped Artie´s vocals off the tracks, either by microphone leakage,or ´print through´ on the master tape,I´m sure just a little bit was left behind. Apart from The Harptones on ´Rene and Georgette´,all background vocals on the album are by PS himself, just as he´s done before and since on other albums/songs. On Cars are Cars though,it´s just one word, and no more than a second, but it sounds like AG to my ears. Have a listen?
Nov-10-2008, 22:32: Live 1969 - Hi!
I have read on this site and other sites that the S & G album "live 1969" that was released on the Starbucks label should have been released earlier this fall, but I have not found it anywhere, even cdnow doesn´t list it. Does anyone know what happened to it?
Nov-10-2008, 08:11: Miriam Makeba is dead - Hi
I sadly report that Miriam Makeba died yesterday.
That´s really sad !
Nov-09-2008, 19:26: sound of silence - hello everybody,i recorded a version of sound of silence, one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion,in my bedroom(dont let that put you off).i loved that song and wanted to put into music the passion and the lyrics of the original version.i know you shouldnt mess with a classic, but i loved the song so much i just had too.would be greatfull for any opinion good or bad.http://www.myspace.com/thetrees08 copy and paste the link...thank you
Nov-08-2008, 04:11: Lyrics Book - Picked up my copy of the new book today. It has two intros, lyrics for every song --including all the Capeman songs, a few pictures, and a couple of pages of handwritten lyrics. I was disappointed that there are NO comments by Paul whatsoever--makes me think he had no input. Anyone else see it yet? Still great to appreciate the beauty of the lyrics, though!
Nov-07-2008, 09:28: Paul´s newest music, what do y... - Hi everyone,I´m just a little curious what everyone thinks of Paul´s latest song[Love in Hard Times]? I personally like it a lot. If this song is an example of part of his future musical leanings, will it alienate fans who may prefer the more rhythmic, uptempo side of Paul´s music. I´m not saying all his future music will be reflective, thoughtful, sophisticated guitar pieces with strange harmonies, but LIHT is certainly that,as were Can I Forgive Him? and even Night Game, both of which I too enjoy. Any opinions?
Nov-06-2008, 22:09: 64 stations and nothing on? - Whats the name of the song that has the lyric that is something like 64 stations / channels and nothing on
Nov-05-2008, 04:55: Los Lobos - Hi everyone. I apologize if this topic has already been discussed in any way,but it seems everytime I am googling a query with Paul´s name used,I come across this negative and slimy interview with Steve Berlin, who truly puts the retrospective knife into Paul´s good name. The whole contentious issue is to do with the last song on Graceland,´All Around The World´,which Paul recorded with Los Lobos. They have accused Paul of literally stealing their song and not giving them due credit. Well this really rankles me. For a start, you can´t claim a copyright on a chord progression, and that apart from their actual physical contribution in recording the song, the most that they contributed WAS the chord progression! Certainly, the melody has that unmistakable Paul Simon quality to it. Paul Simon does not need to ´steal´ such simple progressions. Check the chords for Jonah for example,as evidence of his talent in this area. What next,Steve Gadd wanting a writers credit for ´50 ways´ Ludicrous! Any Thoughts?
Nov-04-2008, 14:40: Mysterious Mrs. Robinson - I was so free to glue together all the peaces I could find from the short October 8 concert at the Town Hall in New York. Paul played 4 fabulous songs, only companied by Mark Stewart. Also including the new version of Mrs. Robinson with the Mystery Train intro. So you hear this song now as a guitar duet without a backing band.
I have found 3 videos on the web - thanks to Paul Fournier btw - and all 3 videos having recorded different parts of the song. So you might hear some changes in the sound, and I guess somewhere a few lines are lost (tell me if you find the position ;-)
Here is the song:
Mysterious Mrs. Robinson
Nov-03-2008, 23:59: unknown paul simon logo? - i thought i was fairly familiar with Paul Simon logos and whatnot but ive just bought a t shirt with " paul simon 36" on it and wondered if anyone could tell me where its come from? i seem to recall a simon and garfunkel " Old Friends 36" logo but i cant find it unfortunately!
any thoughts or whatnot?
Nov-03-2008, 21:20: new album?? - Can anyone tell me if Paul is planing on a new album?
I guess with a new song like Love in Hard Times, Paul might be thinking about recording it...
Nov-01-2008, 12:40: Live in Paris 2000 as CD/DVD s... - Sight and sound will release the You´re The One live DVD concert from Paris 2000 within their classic performance line as a DVD+CD set again. So now everyone has the chance to hear these great live songs on their CD player. Although the most fans will not be very happy with the result, because the CD has been cut by a few songs down to 21 tracks. They did not include 2 CD´s for the ~125 minute show, they use only 1 CD and had to left out a few songs. Please watch out carefully - most online shops (including amazon) list a 26 track CD, which is wrong. The real list can be found on the back cover.
In the year 2000 it maybe was a big marketing failure of his management to release this concert only as a film material. They could have thought that it is more complicated to copy a full DVD, than to share the small mp3´s from a live CD, - and so sales would be higher. But now the circle closes an we get everything.
Here is a link to all amazon shops where you can order the CD.
Amazon: You´re the one DVD and CD set
Track list:
DVD - same tracklist as the Live in Paris DVD 2000 with 26 songs
CD - 21 Tracks.

Nov-01-2008, 11:53: Paul the comedian - Hi
I want to dedicate a page or thread (let´s see what will come out) to Pauls humour. So I ask you: What where Paul´s best jokes or answers in interviews, or TV shows or whatever you find?
Just write down what you remember (maybe with the source or year)
I think that could be funny.

Oct-26-2008, 17:09: The Kodachrome Project - Hi,
I am Daniel Bayer, the creator and director of the Kodachrome Project, a global tribute to Kodachrome´s 75th anniversary.
It will come as no Surprise that in less than a year or two, Kodak will cease to produce Kodachrome film. But as a professional photographer shooting for decades, no digital can compare to it. I shoot it with Leica cameras and it is stunning. I need to make a portrait of Paul in the next year or so on Kodachrome for the project, it would be utterly lame if this did not happen. I need help in facilitating that. I am not a celebrity nut, I live in Aspen, celebrities are my neighbors so one need not worry about the typical fanfare, I am a professional and they are people.
Validation of this project can be found by simply googling the word "Kodachrome". The site, Kodachromeproject.com, will appear on the first page of the results. This project is very important to the history of the film and the closing of the era known as the Kodachrome era. So I am going to be using every possible way to get Paul to engage in it some how. Maybe he can meet me in Kodachrome Basin?
Look for an article on Kodachrome in the Wichita Eagle on Monday, the 27th of October. I have been quoted in it. This is the real deal folks, and we are running out of time, so lets get real.
Sincerely,
Daniel Bayer
Creator / Director of the Kodachrome Project

Sep-27-2008, 19:58: Interview show - There is a great 2 hr. interview on http://www.kcrw.com the Chris Douridas show, from 9/02/2006. Paul talks a lot about his career.Funny bit with AG/PS included.Sorry if this has been posted previously.
Sep-26-2008, 17:45: USeless fan database entries - For your information.
All senseless fan-database entries are deleted on a regualry basis.
While it might take you a few minutes to fill out a profile, it is only 1 click for me.
That als includes your senseless entries maslick, and the guy who is posting his advertisement every few weeks.
Sep-25-2008, 05:38: New songbooks - Check the news section on thedreamerofmusic, there will be 3 new songbooks, one of them published by Paul himself, also some nice pictures of CHF gala and AARP.

Sep-18-2008, 05:36: 1972 McGovern Concert? - Hey, I was wondering if anyone had this concert with Paul and Artie, from what I´ve read it was legendary and I´ve been looking for it for quite some time. Thanks
Sep-16-2008, 13:59: Shameless plug - Paul Simon tribute band All Simon making our first appearance this Friday Sept 19th at Letchworth Arts Centre, Letchworth, Herts. Very, very excited!! Will do my best not to well up when singing Father & Daughter - I Love that song so much, but not quite as much as I love my five-year-Old daughter! Best wishes to all. http://www.allsimon.com
Sep-16-2008, 09:10: offtopic - I know it has nothing to do with Paul, but it makes me really sad that Rick Wright, Keyboard player with Pink floyd, is dead. Always liked them, always liked him, as the quiet, musical guy (so maybe this is what rick and paul have in common)
Sep-13-2008, 10:46: Help with uploading videos? - Hey guys, I´ve got four videos from Lorrach which I´d Love to share with you all: The Teacher, Northeast, Duncan and Slip Slidin. The sound quality isn´t superb but to compensate I was in the first row so Paul was really close! Trouble is I have no idea how to upload videos - either here or on youtube. Can anyone give me a hand?
Sep-13-2008, 00:14: Thelma - I was wondering, has Paul ever played Thelma live?
Sep-11-2008, 21:36: lyrics 1964-2006 - Just found on various US sites, such as barnes & noble, that a comprehensive collection of Paul Simon´s lyrics are to be published in November. Can´t find any UK release date, but should be easily available via Amazon as an import.

Sep-07-2008, 11:09: New song: Love in hard times - This summer Paul Simon gave a special gift to us when he played a new and unreleased composition at some shows of his European tour. It is rare these days that he writes a new song, Paul said before he played this wonderful guitar composition to the fans in Montreux, Switzerland. Thanks to Richard I can offer the download of the live recording of ´Love and hard times´.
Download : Love in hard times
Lyrics transcribed by Joey.
Love In Hard Times
By Paul Simon
God and his only son
Paid a courtesy call on Earth one Sunday morning
Orange blossoms opened their fragrant lips
Songbirds sang from the tips of cotton roots
Old folks wept
For his love in these hard times
´Well, better be going,´
Said the the restless lord to his son
´There are galaxies yet to be born
Creation is never done
Anyway these people are slobs here
If we stay it´s bound to be a mob scene´
Disappeared
And it´s just like love in hard times
I loved her the first time I saw her
I know that´s an old songwriting cliché
I loved her the first time I saw her
Can´t describe it any other way
Any other way
The light of her beauty is warm as a summer day
Clouds of antelopes roll by
No hint of rain
Pale blue sky
Just love, love, love, love, love
But the rains came
The tears burned
The windows rattled
The locks turned
It`s easy to be generous when you`re owed
It´s hard to be grateful
When you´re out of control
And love is gone
The light at the edge of the curtain was the quiet dove
The bedroom weaves in clicks and clacks
My heart and my mind will never last
When your hand takes mine
Thank god I found you tonight
Thank god I found you tonight
Thank god I found you
Sep-06-2008, 23:20: Still Banned? - Quick question. Are we still banned from posting anything about a certain 15 years Old? I ask because I´ve dicovered a couple of things :-)
Sep-06-2008, 14:19: New features - If you use the BOARD mode in the forum you see some new features
You can click on the persons name, and see his profile.
Also you see the picture - if there is one.
And finally the date format has changed, now you can see what year it was :)
Sep-05-2008, 17:08: close to 1000 performances - I checked it today, in the concert list there are 943 entries, including als TV appearances.
We might have missed a few intimitate shows, but on the other hand there are TV appearances which I would not count as a full live concert.
Do you think Paul will reach
1000 shows in his career? :)
Sep-05-2008, 17:04: Washington DC - I wonder - was there never any fan from Washington DC on this website and tried to make his fan-database entry?
I just wonder, because today I realized that this state does not exist here. (because of the concert...)
Aug-23-2008, 14:33: YTO clip - Cannot get this on mentioned site, anyone able to post it here for the rest of us?
Aug-21-2008, 14:51: You´re The One - I was just wondering if any one has You´re The One recorded from this 2008 tour? because i havent seen it on youtube at all.. and i´d Love to see it
Aug-19-2008, 13:01: Update - The Dreamer of Music - The people of the above website has worked quite well for a full update about the summer tour. I have not read everything yet. There is a lot !
From their review (which is very positive on the whole) :
"The new stuff from Surprise album were the less interesting performances of the show, except the wonderful `Father & Daughterâ?. Definitively `Outrageousâ? live version is a bit strange and `How Can You Live In The Northeast?â? cannot match with the rest of Paul`s catalogue. Maybe he should have performed `Wartime Prayersâ? and take some risk doing `Another Galaxyâ? which was delightfully covered by The Roches with some Simon help at BAM concerts in NY."
Interesting !
Also, rumour (not valided yet) about a new album. See the site por favor.
Aug-17-2008, 14:59: Late in The Evening - I have upped the official video clip for "Late In The Evening" to the excessive´s section... Does anyone know where it was filed? I just Love that 80´s retro hair-do!
It´s listed twice as my first attempt failed for some reason... just ignore the one that shows 0.0 bytes!
Aug-17-2008, 14:28: A Book of Salvador Agron? - Hey :)
Well the Capeman is very interesting and when you listen to the Original Cast you´ll hear "I´ve read your prison writings", "This is my book, I´ve written my life story..", "I wrote these pages not with ink, but blood", "I don´t understand your writings.." etc.
Is there a book from Salvador or something like that?
Aug-13-2008, 18:04: Capeman - Playbacks - Hello :)
Some friends and I want to cover some Capemansongs. Do you have any idea were to get playbacks?
Aug-12-2008, 12:39: One Trick Pony - One day i was walking and saw a car named Hyunday Pony :))) I wish i had this car - i would name her One Trick Pony :)))
:)))))))))))))))))))))))
She has one trick to last the lifetime - in car crash, maybe because it was too Old. Maybe 1993-1994 year. But looks as Opel Astra or Corsa. Very nice :)
Aug-12-2008, 00:59: Tabs - I was wondering if anyone has tabs to ´You´re The One´ as i can´t find it anywhere on the net :(
Aug-12-2008, 00:16: Explain verse? - Does anyone have an explanation or interpretation of the last verse of "That´s Where I Belong." I´m referring to the " A spiny little island man..." This is such a beautiful Love song and such an odd ending (I think). Any thoughts??
Aug-11-2008, 17:03: Andy Williams Show - For those who didn´t see this live version of Scarborough Fair with THREE voices and the guitar that was performed on Andy Williams Show in 1968 with the third voice himself :), please WATCH IT:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt4HZ7AKp1s
I was very impressed as i loved the studio version with that extra verse singing at the same time, BUT i didn´t like the arrangement cause i wanted ONLY the voice and the guitar.. So, i found it!!!! It´s great :)
Aug-10-2008, 19:45: Something funny - Hi all
A few weeks ago I noticed something...
Have you ever noticed that the harmony (chords) of Queens song "I want to break free" is very similar to Graceland ?
Check out the video: At 2:34 (right after the -great- guitar solo) there is an instrumental part. Just listen to it and imagine the "intro" of Graceland played at the same time... You´ll see what I mean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hMrY8jysdg
Of course this is nothing special, but once you noticed it, you will always hear Graceland in that song... I find that quite funny :o)
I tried to mix the two songs together, but as the speed and the pitch is not the same it´s quite difficult.
Cheers
Kuno
Aug-06-2008, 20:38: mrs robinson? - Hello, i was listening to the radio yesterday when i heard a new live version of Mrs. Robinson.. it was Paul on his on i think from this tour.. it sounded fantastic.. is he releasing a new live album?
Aug-06-2008, 20:08: new album rumours - On one other PS site they talk about rumours about a new album. Release sceduled in 2010.
Don´t become to excited yet. Only rumours!
Aug-04-2008, 11:19: Crazy people :) - Does anyone Love some of the Paul Simon´s songs like crazy??
For instance, if i like one of the songs - then i´m listening to it 500 thousand times and after i´m bored :)) i start searching for other versions of the songs performed in concerts and feel happy.. and then return..
I wanted to ask if someone has a favourite song (not one, of course many) and how many performances of this song that lucky guy has..
You know, picking some slices that you like from each version and making a new arrangement - isn´t it the best occupation or a hobby for a person that is mad about music made by Paul Simon??
:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Aug-02-2008, 22:36: Paul in New Zealand - Does anyone know if Paul plans to come out to the Antipodes? I would so Love to see him here in New Zealand, and would even be willing to make the flight to Australia if he showed up there. I mean, he´s my favourite musician and I´ve NEVER seen him perform! It´s really starting to get me down. That´s the trouble with coming on the scene this late! I am 16, and I am so afraid that Paul will retire before I get to see him!
Aug-02-2008, 12:15: Hooray!!! :))) - People!! :)
I have finally understood what PS said in concert from 1984 Tour in Illinois :))
You know "..i´m hungry for learning.." and very crazy about what Paul Simon said on his concerts, ´cause i´ve never been to, but have an opportunity to hear the recordings from that time.
So, here we go - if someone is interested :)
He was talking much on these concerts, especially in Illinois (i´ve heared three btw).
Before the song Jonah he talked about his road (tour), cause he was on the road. I already wrote somewhere..here btw (http://www.paul-simon.info/PHP/showthread.php?thre ad=4056).
Then there was a song Hearts & Bones and the next song was 50 Ways. And he said the following:
"When my.. when my son was about three years Old, i was starting to teech him about rhymes, you know sort of.. kind of.. sublimely slip him into the family business, sorely speeking..Eeh.. So I.. first stuff i chilled him with like.. i said like ´sleep out the back, jAck, make a new plan, stAn´:))) now my son is eleven and he is deep .. deep (someone in the audience suggested smth) he is deep interpunk.. exactly :))) deeply interpunk. The other day he was.. i saw him..how.. like a big A written on his wrist and the circle around it. And i said.. eeehm.. yeah - i said what is the A? what is the A down for? He said: ´Anarchy´:) He said: ´right´. So what .. what is that mean that.. you´re an anarchist? He said: ´that´s right!´ I said: ´well.. you know.. interesting philosophical choice´. Just out of curiosity like: ´what do you think an anarchist is?´ He said it is someone who´s definitely not a preppy :)))) For fathers day this is his present to me - this ghettoblaster over here. And sitting inside this ghettoblaster there´s a cassette.. And sometimes, occasionally people ask me if they can use one of my songs as a commercials, you know to sell-off private (?? smth very rapid ?? i didn´t catch). But.. being a fabulously wealthy guy, i say.. i just say NO! But this commercial here.. it came with.. it came with a.. demo of a song, which i really think is worth listening to, so i´m gonna play it for you"
And he plays the Midas Demo on his ghettoblaster (boombox:). For now i don´t fully understand the lyrics. Of course i can here The Sound Of Silence...:))) of Midas
Ohh.. maybe it´s something like:
Midas (automotive service)
Midas (NYSE: MDS) is a chain of automotive service centers. In the main markets of the United States and Canada, Midas stores are company-owned or franchised. In the 17 other countries it operates in, the service centers are either licensed or franchised. The chain was originally known as Midas Muffler as they specialized in the replacement of mufflers. In recent years, they have marketed themselves as Auto Service Experts, as they are capable of performing most routine and common automobile service, including brakes, fluid changes, and suspensions. The company was founded in 1956. The name Midas originates from the king Midas and his golden touch, hence the slogan "Trust the Midas touch".
Aug-02-2008, 10:25: Paul was so GREAT! - In my last news I wrote : Paul was no great! I am sorry, I wanted to write he was SO great! He is fantastic.. I Love him!! I hope you can understand. ciao ciao from Italy.
Aug-02-2008, 00:37: paulsimonweb.com? - I noticed it´s down. It´s not that I really needed to go there, as it was very seldom updated, but I loved that solo version of Homeward Bound that they had on their site from vhi in tune. did anyone keep it?
Jul-31-2008, 21:00: Paul in Rome - Oh man, one of the best show I´ve ever seen in 35 years, Paul was really in shape and it seems he enjoyed the show too. Robben Ford opened up the evening (and I didn´t know it) with a great gig. I saw PS only one time before, it was the Graceland concert in Milano in 1986 (fantastic), and I was a little bit scared about seeing a PS a bit tired and Old: he jumped, screamed, sang and played like a kid !!! He´s Still Crazy After All These Years !!! The most touching moment for me was a stunning version of Train in tne distance, I really went crazy, the arrangement is really incredible: sweet, groovy and funky at the same time; I had the same emotion a few times in my "musical life": James Taylor´s something in the way she moves in 1985, Paul McCartney´s Yesterday in 1993, Ry Cooder´s Crazy ´bout an automobile in 1994, Tina Turner´s Whatever you want me to do in 1998, Crosby´s Almost cut my hair in 1993, Jackson browne´s Late for the sky in 2004 and Paul Simon´s Train In The Distance the day before yesterday... Thank you for your music Paul.

Jul-27-2008, 19:52: Là¶rrach/@Nikki - Hello Nikki!
I Love your report from Lörrach. We were standing only 3 rows behind you and it would have been nice to meet but because I didn´t really know for sure I did not want to ask people who they are. I have the same feelings about the concert as you. The audience in front was gorgous and I really had the impression that the band loved to play for us.
It must have been really great to see them rehears and it is great that you got the chance to meet Paul. I think it´s only fair for someone who travelled so far to get this chance.
We were talking about how crazy we are to sit in the car for 11 hours straight to watch a concert and then go back again without sleeping, but I told my companions that there is someone here, who came from Australia to see this. They were quite surprised to hear this.
So I am really grateful for this wonderful evening and for the great mood that everybody around me was in. It really makes up for the frustration I experienced after the concert in Eisenstadt was cancelled.
Jul-25-2008, 11:56: Paul Simon tribute to play in ... - Hi to all PS/S&G fans. As previously mentioned on this forum, there is a new Paul Simon tribute act - All Simon - and we have just announced our debut gig - Friday Sept 19 (in the UK - Letchworth, Herts). Visit http://www.allsimon.com for more details and general info. Look forward to meeting some of you? Best wishes to all.
Jul-24-2008, 16:02: Train in the distance? - "..Negotiations And Love Songs are often mistaken for one and the same.."
i don´t understand: the same - what?? I mean what´s common in negotiations and love songs?
What´s your suggestions?
Jul-23-2008, 20:01: Konzert Mainz - Wer geht denn zum Konzert nach Mainz? War in Stuttgart und hoffe, das es genau so gut wird wie auf dem Pariser Platz.
Jul-23-2008, 19:43: Eisenstadt canceled - This is terrible for the fans in Austria, is there a chance for a rescheduled date?
I´m so sorry for you Mimi.

Jul-20-2008, 17:10: Locarno - Hi all
I am back from Locarno, yesterdays show was great ! No surprises regarding the setlist though. I saw the whole soundcheck (where they played You´re The One in full, Duncan in full but without vocals and parts of Late In The Evening). Was a cool experience. During the show, I was in the third row and took some great pics (will upload one or two). And I met Rob Schwimmer before the soundcheck. I asked him whether he can ask Paul to play Wartime Prayers as an additional encore. He answer was: "We all Love it when he does it". Uhm, okay, thanks anyway :o) But he was very nice and friendly.... and I took a picture with him :o)
In my opinion Paul and the band were in a better mood than in Montreux (where I saw him last week). Although they played two additional songs in Montreux...sometimes I don´t understand this world :o). The audience was great, a lot of younger people (means between 18 and 25) were there. And we all made noise for 10 minutes after the last song and wanted more encores... But what should I complain, it was a very very good show ! Thanks Paul, looking forward to see you next Saturday again ;o)
Jul-20-2008, 15:34: i do it for your love - occasionally listened to this song
track title: I Do It For Your Love(feat Paul Simon)
Artist Name: Herbie Hancock
Album title: Possibilities 2005
I hear the voice of PS - though very Old , but the song is beautiful, and i Love this version very much!!!
Who heared it?? It´s worth listening to..
Does anyone have more information abiut this??
Jul-20-2008, 01:32: Rome confirmed? - Me and a friend are going to the Rome concert. We`ve bought the tickets and reiceived confirmation from an italian ticketsite. But why is the Rome concert the only concert without the "buy tickets" button on Paulsimon.com ? Does anyone know if the concert is actually confirmed? (should be, as my VISA card is already deducted for the tickets).
Jul-19-2008, 20:46: Concert Photos - Just wanted to say that there´s some terrific photos from the reacent concerts and Pauls looking really fit and slim, from what I can tell. But he looked really well when I saw him in Birmingham.
Thanks for loading these and also for the great reviews xxxx
Jul-19-2008, 11:31: Zydeco - In Stuttgart, the song Zydeco is one of the applause songs (according to a sent in setlist). Is that a new one or what ?
Jul-19-2008, 02:47: Paul Simon sues Japanese clock... - NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. singer and songwriter Paul Simon sued a Japanese clockmaker for $5 million (2.5 million pounds) for copyright infringement on Friday for claiming the company used one of his songs as a composition on their clocks.
Simon´s lawyers accused clock company Rhythm Watch Co Ltd, and its U.S. subsidiary Rhythm USA of using Simon´s song ´Bridge Over Troubled Water´ on 40,000 of its clocks in the last three years without his permission.
The lawsuit called the song ´one of the best known songs throughout the world in popular music´ and cited Rhythm´s ´Grand Nostalgia Clock´ as one that plays Simon´s song without permission as well as other popular songs including ´My Way.´
´Bridge Over Troubled Water´ was the title song of Simon and Art Garfunkel´s final album together, released in 1970.
Rhythm was established in Tokyo in 1950 and has its U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. It manufactures, distributes and sells clocks in Japan, the United States, India and Hong Kong, the lawsuit said.
A license fee for using the song would have cost more than $1 million and the lawsuit estimated Rhythm had profited more than $5 million from the sale of clocks that use the song.

Jul-16-2008, 05:09: One word songs - Nice from Bodo, that all Simon-songs are in yellow here. That means, some of his songs without they are meant. So we see a lot of Old and Love here, some Nobody.
We should also use more uncommon Patterns, being Quiet, showing some Tenderness.
Jul-12-2008, 06:25: and if you would meet him - Imagine, you would be so lucky as Nathanael to meet him for 1 minute. You would have 2 sentences to say. What are the most important things to say?
Jul-11-2008, 21:47: Bootlegs 2008 - Hi there, just short question... Does anybody have any audio records from this europe tour? I have just one from Rejkjavik, which I found on this websites...
Jul-11-2008, 16:31: Dick Cavett Show - Let me live... - LET ME LIVE IN YOUR CITY(*)
Dick Cavett Show, USA TV
2/ 7/ 1972
(*) Previous version of Something So Right with different chorus
Has anyone heard about this?? I mean does anyone have this video?
It would be wonderful to watch :)
Jul-10-2008, 19:41: Met Paul Simon at Montreux Jaz... - Just arrived home from Montreux right now. It was awsome and great what happend yesterday. It made my day, well week, month, year...!? My girlfriend and I were walking along the lake and at 4.30 Paul Simon stood in front uf us. He was walking alone (well one huge black guy next to him, but a bodygard doesn´t count) and he enjoyed the beauty of the lake. Well of course I couldn´t resist and had to ask for a picture. He said: "Yeah", then he looked around, it was very crouded and then he said. "hmm I guess you better don´t take a picture." A short glance on his watch then he added: "I have to be back in half an hour". Well never mind, no pic but I told him that I´m looking forward to his show tonight and he said: "Yes me too". I was too shy to ask more questions but I didn´t want annoying him etc. But it was pretty cool I can tell you and he was really in a perfect mood at the show. Well no wonder after he met me ;-) Will post a review of the show later on. Lots of surprises, great band etc.

Jul-10-2008, 13:23: New song performed at Montreux... - Okay, maybe I make a complete fool out of myself, but I think Paul performed a new song in yesterdays show in Montreux.
After performing SOS he said something like: "I was 21 years Old when I wrote this song. Now I don´t write that often anymore, but this is a new song which I finished one month ago.
And then he did a song on the acoustic guitar which I have never heard. Unfortunately I can´t remember the name or the lyrics.
As I said, maybe I am completely wrong, and Paul was just joking and performed a well known song which I just did not recognize... If that´s the case I apologize for this thread.
And by the way, he performed BOTW ! Together with a lady, cannot remember her name either :o(
So he definitely added two songs to the setlist. Don´t know whether he will keep them in the setlist or whether this was just a Montreux-special.
Jul-09-2008, 23:55: Old v New songs - There is an argument going on in the reviews as to whether a concert should Old songs more than new songs. Remember before they become well known old songs they had to be unknown new songs.
An example ... I went to the Graceland concert in ´87 with some friends who moaned through the whole concert that there were no s&G songs (only SOS). Now anyone who has been to those concerts know how brilliant they were and how those songs have reached so many people. what if PS had made LSBM sing BOTW, boxer etc only?...... I shudder to think!
Jul-08-2008, 02:19: Carole King? - On Paul´s wikipedia site it mentions that he did a collaboration with Carole King. Man, I´d LOVE to find that. I haven´t looked real in depth yet, but I would Love to hunt that down. Does anybody know if it´s even possible to find something like that? I doubt it´s ever been released.
Thanks,
-CJ

Jul-07-2008, 13:20: Question regarding Montreux - Hi all
Is there anyone who goes to the Montreux show and drives back to German-Switzerland or Germany right after the concert ?
Problem is that I have a ticket but cannot take a single hour off from work. Means that I have to be back in the office (Zurich) Thursday morning at 7.00.
There is a train from Montreux, but it is in Zurich only by 4:30. And I don´t dare to go by car by myself, as I am stil suffering from the jetlag a bit, and won´t make it all the way back home.
So if there is anyone who could give me a lift, please tell me... would be willing to pay for the gas of course...
If I can´t find anyone, I think I have to skip the concert :o(
Thanks
Kuno

Jul-01-2008, 16:52: Question About Paul Simon on I... - I saw the show last year (on A&E I believe) when the series profiled Paul Simon and Lorne Michaels. There´s a scene where they visit their favorite Italian place for lunch (quiet, dark, upscale) and I can´t remember the name of it. Does anyone here know? I should have recorded the show but blew it out of my DVR.
Jun-27-2008, 01:17: Ira Tucker dead... - Dixie Hummingbirds lead singer Ira Tucker Sr. dies
4 hours ago
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ` Ira Tucker Sr., longtime lead singer of the gospel group the Dixie Hummingbirds, which influenced many other performers and backed up Paul Simon on "Loves Me Like A Rock," has died. He was 83.
Tucker had severe heart problems and died Tuesday in Philadelphia, where the group was based for many years, according to his son, Ira Tucker Jr.
Among those influenced by the band were the Temptations, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Al Green, according the National Endowment for the Arts, which honored the Hummingbirds in 2000.
They became widely known to Top 40 radio listeners in 1973, when Simon´s "Loves Me Like a Rock" reached No. 2 on the Billboard chart. Besides singing backup with Simon, the Dixie Hummingbirds also produced their own version, which won a Grammy for best soul gospel performance.

Jun-15-2008, 05:47: Ayahuasca - Hello everyone. I am an american studying with shamans in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru. I couldn´t help but notice that one of the sacred healing songs my current teacher sings is a near identical version of sound of silence. Then, I found out that Paul had been to Peru and drank ayahuasca, the same healing brew that I currently drink with Amazon Healers. What I really want to know is when Simon was down here, when did he drink ayahuasca. Could he have heard a healing song, called an icaro, that inspired his career making song, sound of silence? Any help on the year he went to Peru would be a big help. Thanks.
Jun-15-2008, 04:28: Live Dates - Hi everyone-
I like to have all the facts whenever I obtain something and that is no different for Paul Simon live performances.
A few were uploaded with just a year, but I would like to know specific dates, if they are known. Jon can probably help the most, but other input is greatly appreciated. The tracks are:
Cecilia (1982 S&G)
Dream Dream Dream (1982 S&G)
Kathy´s Song (S&G)
American Tune/The Boxer (Solo)
Bye Bye Love/Amazing Grace (Solo 1978)
America (S&G 1993)
Just a date would be great!
Thanks in advance,
-Peter
Jun-13-2008, 12:26: Away - I will be away until August 6 or 7.

Jun-12-2008, 08:33: Liverpool 2008 Tickets - Hi everyone.
I have a pair of tickets for the Liverpool concert on 6th July. If anybody would like them they are more than welcome.
They are £45.00 / each and are for block D row H seats 14 and 15, so they aren´t bad seats.
I don´t physically have them as I´m collecting on the day so would need to meet you prior to the event.
Jun-09-2008, 08:34: The Essential - I noticed that The Essential album was at no.17 in the album charts when I did my shopping this weekend. They had both the CD and the CD+DVD versions in the supermarket. Looks like it has just been released in the UK prior to the Europe 2008 tour.
Then when I got home there was an advert for the album on TV which featured videos to You Can Call Me Al, Me & Julio and a video to Father & Daughter that was different to the one made for the Wild Thornberry´s Movie.
Jun-06-2008, 21:37: Eddie and Girl - Just seen the pic of Eddie (almost put Edie lol) and it could be Emma, Eddie and Leslie´s daughter.
For those who may not know, Eddie is married to artist Leslie Horan Simon. And they just have the one child. I have to assume she´s a little younger than Haper as when Belle´s grandchildren were listed in her obit it was Harper, Emma, Adrian, Lulu and Gabriel.
Jun-06-2008, 21:32: Ears! - Do you remember...ages ago, when we spoke of Pauls lobes or lack of them suddenly? I was looking at a web site of reacent images and they´re back and there´s older images where he has those strange ear lobes.
I wouldn´t normally mention it, but there´s pics of him at BAM with them and images from about 2006 at a concert and they´re long and strange...It´s a mystery lol
Here´s the web site...

May-12-2008, 14:48: How to contact to Paul Simon? - Hey guys!
Me and couple of Paul Simon fans in Russia are gonna send him a letter with asking to visit Russia and give a concert here.
The question is how to contact to Paul Simon.
On the official site (http://paulsimon.com) I found neither links nor email to send a message.
We could send him a message via MySpace (http://myspace.com/paulsimon) but we are not sure if Paul reads such messages...
If anyone had some information HELP US PLEASE :)))
May-08-2008, 21:27: Paul Simon To Play Washington ... - Saturday, September 6, 2008 - tickets available through AARP:
http://www.aarp.org/aarp_benefits/natl_events/dc/e ntertainment/http://www.aarp.org/aarp_benefits/natl_events/dc/e ntertainment/paulsimon.htmlPaul Simon is one of the most distinguished songwriters and performers of our time. Of his 12 Grammy Awards, three (´Bridge Over Troubled Water,´ ´Still Crazy After All These Years´ and ´Graceland´) were for albums of the year. In 2003 he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock n´ Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist. The American Film Institute included his song, ´Mrs. Robinson´ from The Graduate, in the top 10 of its ´100 Years 100 Songs.´
The concert appearances he is most fond of were the two concerts in Central Park in New York (with his partner and childhood friend Art Garfunkel in 1981, and as a solo artist in 1991) and the series of shows he performed at the invitation of Nelson Mandela, making him the first American artist to perform in post-apartheid South Africa.
His philanthropic work includes co-founding the Children´s Health Fund, which donates and staffs mobile medical vans that bring health care to poor and indigent children in urban and rural America. Simon has also raised millions of dollars for varied causes that include AMFAR, the Nature Conservancy and Autism Speaks.
Simon has been honored with the first annual Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (2007), the Kennedy Center Honors (2003) and the United Negro College Fund´s Frederick D. Patterson Award (1989).

May-08-2008, 01:26: BAM Talk with Philip Glass - Posted new pictures from the BAM talk last May 5. I was very lucky to have gotten a seat right in front, however, as it was to the right of the stage, Paul´s back was turned away from us the whole show, and I was right in the line of sight of several BAM staff. Was only able to take pictures when the Q&A started, since people moved around etc. Will post more details if people are interested. Lovely evening. Paul and Philip are so smart, articulate, creative! PS I was able to record the talk :-) Will try transferring from celphone to PC, but so far it hasn´t been working. I´ve only been able to transfer the first 49 seconds, but I have the whole 79 minutes of the talk, but not the Q&A part, since I needed my phone to sneak in some shots.
May-07-2008, 15:42: Capeman - I would like to hear some reviews of the Capeman performed at BAM. I was blown away by the performance. I´ve been to 13 PS appearances and I thought this was the best music he´s done. I would Love to see it tried again or a DVD made from the BAM performance for those who didn´t see it. Any thoughts or comments? I also enjoyed the American Tunes but the first show of the Capeman was his best.
May-06-2008, 13:58: Karaoke songs - Does anyone have Karaoke files of Paul Simon songs?
Either real videos, or only instrumental versions of songs like ´You Can Call Me Al´ ?
The only instrumental songs I know are the ones from this Bootleg (and there are really no hit´s), and Father and daughter...
I want to sing songs like Late In The Evening :)

Apr-23-2008, 09:13: Abuse of Paul Simon´s song - Dear friends,
I am writing to inform you that the song "The Boxer" by Paul Simon and Garfunkel is being used by a Serbian Radical Party, as a musical background for their campaign for upcoming elections in Serbia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zywXtwi8LbA
Serbian Radical Party is a right wing nationalist party and their leader is currently on trial in the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war.
I believe that the use of this song is offensive to those who are fond of this song and the work of these artists. I also believe that the use of this song constitutes violation of author`s moral and intellectual property rights, and feel obliged to inform you of this.
With kind regards,
Milos

Apr-17-2008, 02:19: Ten Years? - Hey-- I just read that Paul apparently wrote and sang the song "Ten Years" as the Oprah theme song for one season in the mid to late 1990s. Does anyone know where I can find the song? I read that it was recorded while he was making Rythem of the Saints, but for some reason it was left off the album and off the reissue from a few years ago.
you can listen to an exerpt here:

Apr-16-2008, 14:01: Rolling Stones, etc. - Hi folks,
There is this article from Rolling Stones with a great series of pics.
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/20 08/04/14/paul-simon-welcomes-special-guests-under- african-skies-in-brooklyn/
Last paragraph:
Paul Simon`s career has been a little rocky since his two forays into world music. He spent seven years crafting The Capeman, only to see it universally panned and close after just sixty-eight performances. The recent reunion tour with Art Garfunkel was a great show, but not exactly a forward looking project. His only two albums since Rhythm Of The Saints ` 2000`s You`re The One and 2006`s Surprise ` were met mostly with indifference (though I`d argue they both had many strong moments). He hasn`t seemed cool in a very long time, which is probably why he agreed to spend a month at BAM reviving his past. The Under African Skies show was a strong reminder that he was one of the very few 1960s rock stars still putting out brilliant music twenty years on. Decades from now, Graceland will most likely be seen as Simon`s crowning achievement, and this show was a wonderful reminder of that fascinating chapter of his career.
Also, two videos with David Byrne:

Apr-14-2008, 06:21: PS on Dime - Hi all

Apr-12-2008, 19:55: Capeman BAM show on YouTube - Some clips of the Capeman concerts at BAM have started to appear on YouTube. Here is one of a performance of ´Yo Nasci en Puerto Rico´ where you can see Paul playing guitar with the band:

Apr-10-2008, 11:57: No reviews? - 1 week of Capeman shows...and no review... yesterday the first African skies show...no review??
Not anyone who wants to tell us a few things, the setlist at least? :(
Apr-07-2008, 11:39: Capeman show BAM 1april - I was in New York with my wife last week and fortunately I found out just the week before that Paul was going to perform. Or rather his songs were going to be performed.
The show was absolutely brilliant and I´m not ashamed to say tha both my wife and I shed a tear during the performence.
Paul did one song, Trailway bus, fortunately for me one of my favorites of the album. The other singers were really really good and we both concludded that it was in fact good that Simon didn´t do more songs because this gave us the opportunity to see The Capeman as I believe it was intended to be performed.
This leads me to my question. I believed that the album Paul made included all the songs, but after having seen the BAM show I now know that there were many, brilliant songs, left out of the album.
On the Wiqipedia it says that the Capeman show has been recorded. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, is it possible to gain a copy of that album?
Apr-07-2008, 09:17: Opening act - for Paul Simon in Stuttgart, July 17 is Raul Midon at 7 p.m. Don`t know him.
Apr-05-2008, 22:09: Jeopoardy! - Did anyon catch Jeopoardy! on TV yesterday? There was an entire category on Paul´s songs. Mary, from SeaTac, Washington (near where I live), answered them all correctly.
You can test your knowledge by seeing the questions here:
http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=2397
Just run your mouse over the clue to find the answer. (I think most of us would find them very easy).
Apr-05-2008, 13:20: Lucia Jean? - As a break from all the concert buzz... here´s something a little different. Was checking out the PS article on wikipedia to see how far it had been updated, and I noticed that someone had listed amongst Paul´s children ´Lucia Jean´. That´s the first time I´ve heard Lulu mentioned by that name and I wonder whether the information is true. Anyway, it just struck me as being curious. Bodo if we´re not meant to be talking about Paul´s kids (after the Adrian incident) then please feel free to delete this thread!
Apr-05-2008, 11:24: Live Meeting - Can we have a Live Meeting section for the 2008 European tour, please?
Also can the Love in a Hard Times residency in Brooklyn be separated from the 2008 tour rather than being lumped together as "Love in hard times Tour"
Many thanks!

Simon is revered now as he ever was, over 40 years into a career which has spawned such timeless classics as ´Bridge Over Troubled Waters´, ´Homeward Bound´, ´Mrs Robinson´, ´50 Way to leave Your Lover´ and dozens of other hits, along with albums as unique and important as ´Still Crazy After All These Years´ and ´Graceland´ to name but two. Legend is not overstating it.
Speaking about his 2002 Pops appearance, Simon said: ´Liverpool was the very best concert on my European tour and the audience were also the best. I really enjoyed the show. What an audience, the reaction was really fabulous. I can`t wait to come back.´
Famously, the north west of England inspired him to pen one of his greatest hits.
In 1965, Paul Simon had been touring around the north west, appearing at clubs from Birkenhead to Widnes. Widnes railway station, has become the stuff of music legend, thanks to a home and lovesick Simon. It was here, that he had the inspiration for the song ´Homeward Bound´, Simon and Garfunkel`s first UK hit. It was whilst waiting for the milk train at Widnes Station, after a local folk club gig, he yearned to be back in London, in the arms of his beloved Kathy.
During his distinguished career Simon has been the recipient of many honours and awards including 12 Grammy Awards, three of which (´Bridge Over Troubled Water´, ´Still Crazy After All These Years´ and ´Graceland´) were albums of the year.
In 2003 he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel. He is an inductee of The Songwriters Hall of Fame and is in the Rock n´ Roll Hall of Fame both as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist.

Apr-02-2008, 07:39: Graceland - Hey everybody!
I´m doing a school project about Graceland for my exams in English, and I would like some background info on the song´s origin. I think there was another thread about this subject once, but I´ve been looking through every thread on this forum, and it seems like it´s been deleted.
So if any of you know something about the song Graceland´s origin, I would be VERY happy to hear from you.
Thanks in advance, Phoebe
Apr-01-2008, 16:41: When Steve Gadd talks about Pa... - Steve Gadd has just published this blog on his MySpace about Paul in tour ;-) :
An Outsider at the Center of a Musical Universe:
It may be hard to think of Paul Simon as an outsider. He rode high on the pop charts for three decades, has collected a dozen Grammy Awards and was a shoo-in for various halls of fame. He can sell out arenas whenever he decides to reunite with his 1960s partner, Art Garfunkel. He wrote and starred in a movie and mounted a Broadway musical. He has gone globe-hopping and drawn musicians who are national heroes to sit in as sidemen.
His music stays restrained, ever tasteful. He sings gently in his own meticulous productions, and his songs can share radio formats with the most soothing soft-rock. He`s more than welcome at established institutions like the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which is presenting "Love in Hard Times," a monthlong, three-program tribute and retrospective from Tuesday to April 27, full of other people singing his songs along with Mr. Simon himself.
Yet the thread running through Mr. Simon`s songs is estrangement. From "I Am A Rock" to "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" to "You Can Call Me Al" to the cranky reflections on his 2006 album "Surprise," he has sung about being alienated, misplaced, restless, disillusioned. Moments of solace or satisfaction are far outnumbered by misgivings and regrets. The material comforts that he recognizes are his ` as a wealthy man, as a pop success, as an American in a wider world ` don`t bring him peace of mind. Neither does the finicky craftsmanship that has always marked his music.
Yet that sense of estrangement hasn`t kept him isolated, as the rosters for the Brooklyn concerts demonstrate. From his teenage partnership with Mr. Garfunkel ` which has been a publicly contentious, on-again off-again proposition since the duo broke up at the beginning of the 1970s ` through his 10 solo studio albums beginning in 1972, Mr. Simon has made a far-flung social network of his music, surrounding himself with first-rate players from across the world.
The programs for "Love in Hard Times" group Mr. Simon`s songs and collaborators geographically, an appropriate choice for such a well-traveled musician. "Under African Skies" (April 9 to 13), which is already sold out, gathers his African and Brazilian-flavored songs with appearances by the resonant South African men`s chorale Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Brazilian songwriter Milton Nascimento and others.
"American Tunes" (April 23 to 27) includes the Roches, who harmonized on "There Goes Rhymin` Simon" in 1973, along with younger admirers like the neo-Appalachian songwriter Gillian Welch, the harmony-loving indie-rock band Grizzly Bear and the popera singer Josh Groban.
The first program, "Songs From `The Capeman` " (Tuesday through April 6), revives some of Mr. Simon`s least performed repertory: "The Capeman," his 1998 Broadway musical (including lyrics by the Nobel Prize-winning poet Derek Walcott) about a Puerto Rican gang member who killed two teenagers. The concerts will feature the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, whose members appeared on the original recording, and the doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials. With frequent four-letter words, a Hispanic murderer as its central figure and a subtext of Santeràa symbolism, "The Capeman" was a hard sell on Broadway, where, for all his pop recognition, Mr. Simon was definitely an outsider.
Throughout his career Mr. Simon has been a convenient target, sometimes for good reason. He has made magnificent albums and duds; his songs can be ingenious and emotionally telling or pretentious and whiny. He can be an eerie, evocative lyricist ` writing gorgeous lines like "Long past the midnight curfew we sat starry-eyed," from "Peace Like A River" ` or a prosaic and hectoring one.
Abandon isn`t part of Mr. Simon`s palette; he`s terse, controlled, more than a little uptight. His music is for listeners who appreciate the crafty details nearly as much as he does. He has always been the smart, bourgeois, fussy wimp who makes some self-styled rockers want to kick sand in his face. But his approach keeps resurfacing, lately via this year`s New York rock success story, Vampire Weekend, whose debut album leaped from indie-rock blogs to the Top 20, drawing on Mr. Simon`s vocabulary of collegiate allusions, bouncy rhythms and African-tinged guitar licks.
Mr. Simon was never a doctrinaire folkie, or any other kind of purist. Growing up in the 1950s, he was drawn to Elvis Presley, doo-wop and the Everly Brothers, and in many of the songs he has written as an adult, a phrase of doo-wop melody is shorthand for fleeting bliss. His early recordings ` with Mr. Garfunkel under the name Tom and Jerry, and by himself ` aimed to be pop-rock hits. Although Simon and Garfunkel emerged as a coffeehouse-style duo backed by Mr. Simon`s lone acoustic guitar, he was soon slipping complex jazz chords between the folk rudiments. His fondness for rhythm gradually resurfaced, growing stronger during his solo career.
Some of the songs Mr. Simon wrote for Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s have not aged well. The smiley-faced chorus of "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin` Groovy)" grew dated along with its slang, and songs like "Bleecker Street" and "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her" are painfully precious. Mr. Simon had to find a looser, more colloquial voice, and he did at times on Simon and Garfunkel`s later albums and, decisively, on his 1972 album "Paul Simon," with irresistible but not quite explicable songs like "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard."
"Paul Simon" ` which included a song recorded with reggae musicians in Jamaica ("Mother And Child Reunion") before most Americans were aware of reggae, and one with the French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli in Paris ("Hobo`s Blues") ` was also a harbinger of Mr. Simon`s worldwide musical itinerary. In a way he is a consummate New Yorker, representing a city where innumerable cultures brush up against one another.
Actually "Paul Simon" wasn`t his first batch of travel souvenirs. He lived in England in 1964 and played the folk-club circuit there, picking up traditional songs and learning from musicians like the singer Martin Carthy and the guitarist Davy Graham. (Mr. Simon played Mr. Graham`s instrumental "Anji" on Simon and Garfunkel`s 1966 album "Sounds Of Silence.")
When Simon and Garfunkel interwove the traditional "Scarborough Fair," learned from Mr. Carthy, into "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" on the album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme," the first grumblings arose about Mr. Simon as a cultural carpetbagger, an outsider exploiting the pop potential of local scenes.
Another Simon and Garfunkel hit, "El Cà³ndor Pasa," put new words to the melody of an Old Peruvian song. And Mr. Simon regularly drew on varieties of Americana, particularly gospel.
But it was "Graceland" in 1986 that made Mr. Simon controversial. He had been through a fallow period with his albums "One-Trick Pony" (despite its Caribbean-flavored hit, "Late In The Evening") and "Hearts And Bones." Hearing the three-chord bounce of South African township pop unlocked something in Mr. Simon`s songwriting, reminding him of the simple pleasures he had gotten from early rock `n` roll and, as he turned African grooves into songs, inspiring some global perspective in the lyrics.
He wrote his own melodies and lyrics atop songs already recorded by South African musicians. He also recorded new songs in Johannesburg with South African musicians during a cultural boycott against apartheid in that country. (The United Nations Anti-Apartheid Committee ruled that he had not violated the boycott because he supported black musicians, not the government.) Mr. Simon scrupulously shared credit and royalties with his collaborators and introduced his worldwide audience to South African music ` in retrospect, an undeniable boon.
"Graceland" sold millions of copies and won Grammy Awards, but it also stoked arguments about international cultural relations. Was Mr. Simon a colonialist, expropriating the precious resources of the third world for his own advantage (shared royalties aside)? Was he adding something to his South African sources by placing his own words and his small voice in the foreground, or just diluting African music for uninformed pop tastes? Would listeners accept Mr. Simon`s songs as South African music and look no further, dismissing an entire culture once his album was off the radio? Was he just a tourist, bringing back musical knickknacks torn free of context?
Those arguments can seem quaint now that the world`s music cruises the Internet and countless songs are built by cut-and-paste. The decades proved Mr. Simon`s instincts were right. Just as he had used English folk songs, doo-wop and gospel, he used African music ` and later the Brazilian music that fueled "The Rhythm Of The Saints" in 1990 ` but by no means used it up. The sounds he drew on were far more durable than that. And his African collaborators, like Ladysmith Black Mambazo, found new, eager listeners for their own material worldwide.
Mr. Simon has turned out to be not a carpetbagger but a connoisseur and, at best, an alchemist. Being an outsider led him to choose musical ideas that didn`t need explanation, that could survive and propagate away from home. And as a craftsman he has tweaked what he borrowed, personalizing and hybridizing it. From "Scarborough Fair" to the Afro-reggae beat he recorded in Bahia with the Brazilian drummers of Olodum, Mr. Simon has been sharing ideas, not confiscating them.
He has been one embodiment of the pop process, that mixture of instinct and calculation that scouts cultural and geographical fringes for the next mainstream treat. And being Paul Simon he doesn`t simplify what he finds. He adds his beloved musical convolutions and verbal conundrums, his layers of New York cosmopolitanism, anxiety and striving. It doesn`t always work, but when it does, for a few precisely constructed minutes, Mr. Simon`s music gracefully holds estrangement at bay.

Mar-18-2008, 10:34: Surreal Dream - Relentlessly pursuing an impossible dream
For 730 days on earth, living in daze
Harboring endless desires
Pirates burying their priceless treasures
With my 6 strings, I play your tune
My fingers sore, heart is waning
Singing to your melodious tune
The tune that is much older than me
Settles like Old aged tea
The words penetrates this soul
Pinning for your presence
Just a sheer sight of your performance
Your caress of your guitar
Fingers plucking through the air
Wonders it may seem
Such surreal, such wonderful dream

In June, my girlfriend and me will be travelling through the US.
It´s only a short trip (16 days). Our first step is New York city where we stay for 2 or 3 days.
Now my question: What places are Paul Simon related ? Surely it´s central park, queensboro bridge, the brill building... are there any more ?
Mar-09-2008, 07:40: BMI - Is the biggest artist/songwriter copyright and publishing company in the world. Paul Simon is with them too. On their side you can find f.i. 330 Simon-songs including a lot of covers unknown to me. Partly in other languages.

Feb-29-2008, 08:18: Ronald Regan/Paul Simon Gershw... - I watched the PS Gershwin show again.
There is a segment wherein they recognize Bridge by showing all the famous folks who have covered it. What struck me as odd (okay, it bothered the hell out of me)
In this montage of Bridge Over Troubled Water with Cash, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, etc, There is a clip from Ronald Regan´s funeral.
Paul Simon, throughout his life, has been a champion for peace and equality, this is part of the reason why I as a teenager fell in Love with him.
Ronald Regan was a war mongering rich thug who could have given two shits about the poor and oppressed. As the leader of the United States, he did nothing to help the poor, but rather worked to help give more benefits to the wealthiest group of Americans.
for the record, I am an American, I´ve lived in Pennsylvania my entire life
This begs the question as to why Nancy Regan and Ronald´s funeral procession was included in Paul´s Gershwin show. I am confident that if Paul would have had anything to do with it, the Bridge montage would have included those who truly tried to bridge troubled water by peaceful means, as it did in Simon and Garfunkel´s TV special in 1969.
Feb-28-2008, 11:02: Which is Better? - Do you prefer Paul Simon´s songs back in the 60-80s or you prefer the current ones and WHY?
Feb-27-2008, 21:00: Simon´s mistake (or little li... - What do you think about Paul´s remark just before Leaves That Are Green on the Old Friends concert? He says "the last time we sang this song in concert was Carnegie Hall, 1967". And indeed, it appears on the CD release of that concert. But it also appears to be on the release of Live 1969, a recording from Detroit in 1969. So, he was mistaken??? Because what he claims in the Old Friends concert is not true... did you also notice that???
Feb-24-2008, 21:50: paul simon stickers? - ok im really sad and have just bought a nintendo ds lite in white- with the intention of sticking Paul Simon stickers allll over it- but i cant find any! do they exist in the uk? where can i get them/ make them? i also want to customise a couple of folders etc so prefferably more than one

I have a question, does anybody know if Old 78rpm shellacs of Paul Simon/Tom and Jerry/Landis (from the 50´s) exist? (not 45rpm singles)
Jan-24-2008, 19:57: Obvious Child Lyric - I´m curious to have anyone´s views on the "correct" punctuation of the following, as the meaning is affected quite a bit
Is it:
1. "Why deny The Obvious Child?"
or
2. "Why deny the obvious, child?"
or
3. Do you think both meanings were intended?
(I know, get a life.)
Jan-18-2008, 11:41: CP91 - possible bad news - As many of you are aware, Paul Simon´s Concert In The Park is not available on DVD but it was available on the LaserDisc format.
I was reading a page on Wikipedia about Laserdiscs when I read the folowing comment:
"During the late 1980s, Pioneer signed contracts with major music artists, such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, and others, to release their concerts on Laserdisc only through Pioneer. To this date, the contracts are still standing, and the concerts have not been re-released on DVD by Pioneer or others. An exception is the Genesis LD of "The way we walk" , which was released to DVD in October 2002, under the Pioneer label"
Paul Simon and Madonna are both on Warners and I wondered whether this contract effected CP91. Could this explain why other concerts have appeared on DVD but not this one?
Jan-16-2008, 20:35: Did Paul do Soundstage?? - I hsve a vivid memory of Paul performing on Soundstage on PBS back in the 1970´s. Am I mistaken? does anyone else remember this? Was it really the Tower Theatre show from 1980 that was put out on DVD? I seem to recall it being way back around his earlier solo LPS. Anybody?
Jan-14-2008, 06:54: Paul Simon Video?? - Long time fan, suddenly obsessed with seeing Old TV/video footage of Paul (or S & G). Does anyone out there have a collection they would be willing to copy things from? Trade, etc.? Please e-mail me if so, at [email protected]
Jan-11-2008, 15:49: Curiosity killed the cat...but... - Guys, I don´t know if this was already asked but everytime I watch the Central Paek ´91 show I start wondering...
Does anybody here know somethng about that doll/idol/whatever brooch Paul got in the belt of his guitar?
It seems to me as an African stuff. Was it a gift/ A special one? An enchantment to bring good luck? Or just a suvenir?
What do you thinK?
Jan-09-2008, 00:29: More personal life junk - Hi gang. Sorry been away for a while. Hate to come back with a personal instead of music-related post, but oh well. This related to my life more than Mr. Simon´s, to be honest. Did Edie convert to Judiasm for Paul? Always touching when someone does that. Love trumps religion. Thnx.

Jan-04-2008, 16:39: Simon & Garfunkel´s Bookends - I just finished reading The new Pete Fornatale book about the Bookends album. Not a lot of new information in it but interesting about how the concept album came to be. Also, a small bit about when they found out Sound of Silence had hit number 1. The two guys sitting in the car smoking a J is Paul´s version. Art says they received a phone call at their hotel room in LA. It´s a small book about the size of a paperback & only 131 pages but kind of interesting anyway.
Jan-02-2008, 02:18: Happy New Year to All - Finally! A holiday we can all celebrate! In terms of Paul Simon, it was a slow year newswise, minus the one week I was out of town in July. Here´s to a good 2008 and hopefully someting exciting from Uncle Paul, although he is will within his right if he wants to simply sit back and listen to music for once
